Aerial of the Day #376 - 22 Jul 2003
« on: July 22, 2003, 09:00:00 AM »
Unfortunately, this is as big as it gets, as zooming in further yielded older pics.

Have heard good things about this very modern course.  Not
cheap to join, though.

Supposedly a terrific property, perhaps the best in the metro
area.  Archie waived a few fees, it was so good.

Local praise on here by militant walker.

Good views of city skyline from points on course.

Big length, big CR, big slope, big plans for future big-time tournaments.

Have meetings through 1:30, hope to sneak in some clues in between...

Subject of recent threads because it's only been open a short
time, but it's received big press.  Friar's Head and this one
vying for Best New Private next year?  (due to the architect
of this one, it'll be a contest at GD)

Praise on just pictures from the Emperor for this archie?  Is it possible?

Membership from all over the country (it's in the name).

If I had said metroplex instead of just metro earlier, that
would've helped more.

And here I thought this was going to be a week full of
conversation-piece aerials.

America's Team's QB is a member here (Irvin years don't count).  As is Golden Brett.

Land called best piece of golfing property left closest to a major city center.

YAPCR clue:  Jack Tripper's best bud's last name.

Also, Bloom County character Steve's last name.

YAPCR trivia:  Forrest Gump's army mate 'Cleveland' was
from Detroit.  Who was from Phoenix?

Scott,
I'd rather have Coore, Crenshaw and Bakst than Fazio

Alex Rodriguez also recently joined here....  It doesn't look like the typical Fazio course.

To expand on Scott's YAPCR clues - the name of Matt Dillon's character in The Outsiders.

J.R. and Bobby hail from this area.

Wasn't there a fire here recently?

This is Dallas National GC, in Dallas, TX, designed by Tom Fazio.

Other than Lou Duran praising the course and the $175K
initiation, all you need to know (including a bunch of pics) is
in this recent thread:

http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forums2/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=5401

other clues include:

"very modern course" = opened in the last year.

"Not cheap to join, though" = see above

"Supposedly a terrific property, perhaps the best in the metro
(plex = D/FW area) area.  Archie waived a few fees, it was so
good." = supposedly Fazio waived certain fees for awhile, the
property was so good.

'Local praise on here by militant walker." = "Sweet" Lou Duran  ;)

"Good views of city skyline from points on course." =
downtown Dallas

"Big length, big CR, big slope, big plans for future big-time
tournaments" = everything is "Big"ger in Texas.  7326 yards,
155 slope, hopes for majors

"Subject of recent threads"

"Friar's Head and this one vying for Best New Private next
year?  (due to the architect of this one, it'll be a contest at
GD)" = GD panelists love the Faz.

"Praise on just pictures from the Emperor for this archie?  Is
it possible?" = see above thread

"Membership from all over the country (it's in the name)." = "National"

"America's Team's QB is a member here (Irvin years don't
count).  As is Golden Brett." = Roger Staubach and Brett Hull,
local sports stars (in more than one way, Cowboys' helmet
and hockey team name).  Extremely wealthy Texas Ranger, "Alex Rodriguez", too.

"Land called best piece of golfing property left closest to a
major city center." = Ardrossan Farm is supposed to be
good, too, but is further away than this one.

"YAPCR clue:  Jack Tripper's best bud's last name." =
Larry "Dallas", which was actually shortened from the
Greek "Dallaopolis" (Favorite show growing up)

"Bloom County character Steve's last name."  = "Dallas"

"YAPCR trivia:  Forrest Gump's army mate 'Cleveland' was
from Detroit.  Who was from Phoenix? " = "Dallas is from
Phoenix, Cleveland is from Detroit, and Tex, well, I don't
know where Tex comes from".

"Matt Dillon's character in The Outsiders" = "Dallas", I assume.

"J.R. and Bobby hail from this area." = the Ewings of TV's "Dallas" fame

Wasn't there a fire here recently? = yes, in late April

Here's the layout of DNGC:

from the web site (which had been down for some time):

http://www.dallasnationalgolfclub.com/

....and the "big" CR is 76.1...didn't have that info yesterday.

The web site also mentions Lee Trevino, Rafael Palmeiro, and
pitcher Kenny Rogers as being members, too.
