From our friend Mike Cirba:
------------------------------------------------
All,
It's fabulous to see more of Pete Trenham's fabulous site on Philadelphia region golf course history being displayed on GolfClubAtlas. The site has a wealth of information, including some terrific resources for architectural buffs and researchers, much of which can be found on this page. Included is a link to the online Cobb's Creek Golf Course History book that Joe Bausch and I put together, but our work is only a small fragment of the wealth of golf history that can be found here.
http://www.trenhamgolfhistory.org/PTHGOther.html The 1934 US Open at Merion program is indicative of the wonderful rare finds that are included here. It's certainly worth a perusal, and includes detailed course and hole-by-hole drawings by none other than William Flynn. Also included is the following article by longtime Merion Club President Robert Lesley who was Chairman of the Golf Committee when the Merion East and West courses were created and who provides a nice history of the club to that date.
I trust those with an interest in the history of Merion will find the 1934 program of value, and anyone with an interest in golf history in general will find plenty of plums to pick from Pete's site. Now, back to lurking, but hope all is well with everyone in the GCA family and I wish you all the best.
Cheers,
Mike Cirba
