Re: Matt Cohn's In My Opinion Piece on Lincoln Park

For what it's worth, I played Lincoln Park this past weekend and it was in the best shape I've ever seen it.  The greens rolled smoother and had more pace than usual.  The fairways were relatively dry too so my ball rarely picked up mud and I even got a non-trivial amount of roll on a hole or two.  When I missed greens I was hitting typical chips and pitches rather than chopping it out of a footprint in mud.  For those of you who have been out there before, you know these are quite rare characteristics for a round at Lincoln Park.

If you're in the area and Matt's writeup got you interested in playing it some time, I think now is probably a great time to do so.

Andrew, is there a drought in SF?   ;D

Lincoln is so much fun.  For all its small size, there are a LOT of long full shots to very small targets there!

Coindentally, I was just hiking at Lands End at dusk on Saturday and persuaded my girlfriend to walk thru the golf course on the way back to our Cliffhouse parking space, since I had only played the course once, a few years ago.   When we were walking from the 17th green to the 18th tee a ball came whizzing past us on the road (not a player in the tournament, but someone who teed off after the tourney groups had finished).  I picked it up and threw it back on the green 5 feet from the hole.  Not to help the guy's game, but to make sure he didnt lose the ball.  I wouldve told him I did it if he was anywhere near me when I did it.

The course did look in remarkably good shape (for Lincoln). The 1st round of the City Championship qualifying had just been played that day (unbeknownst to me).  the best score there on the first day was 67.  Randy Haag shot 71.  David Tepper posted a link to all the scores in the main discussion forum.

Thanks for the profile, and it was fun to read the comments about the course on this thread.
