Patrick,

Try this one from the Holy Grail:

Jud, you do have to wonder, what kind of wimp starts a thread like this ?

He's not even man enough to come out and state, in his title and opening thread, that I'm the object of his whining

For most of the last couple of months I have been holed up at a Hilton across the road from my client's office... Their HQ being located somewhere in the frozen, windy Mid-West. Among the amenities that makes my stay there tolerable is the free oatmeal breakfast that comes with a complimentary copy of the Wall Street Journal. Despite my general disdain for the owner, I have to admit the WSJ-like Pat Mucci-is full of interesting information that provides a glimpse into the way people other than myself think and live. The Real Estate section on Friday for instance could be seen as a replacement for the journeys Pat takes through the ultra private golf courses he seems to prefer. Much of the reporting is lively accurate stuff...

Keep turning the page, however, and you will eventually reach the opinion section, which like some of Pat's theories is full of delusional, 'the sky is orange because I say it is' kind of stuff. e.g. Global warming is just a 'theory' shared by a small group of scientists, the president is a Kenyan socialist and spendthrift..  Despite the fact the stock market is reaching heights not seen since the last lot put the economy in the toilet-and federal government spending is currently declining by 6% a year.

Substitute in one of Pat's pet theories... e.g. Donald Trump is the savior of American golf and you get the idea. The fact he reacts with the calm and rational demeanor of Rush Limbaugh when challenged on his theories sort of completes the picture.

That said, I find it hard to believe that Pat would stoop to some of the behavior we see on this site... Threatening to 'inform' on people whose livelihood depends on jobs they hold for nothing other than a opinion they don't agree with.

That kind of digital McCarthyism has no place on GCA.com.

Steve Lang thank you very much for the best belly laugh opportunity I have had in a long while!!!!   ;D

I like to laugh, and can chuckle a few times a day, many times at things here on GCA.com.  And, despite the bit from Monty Python obviously having been around a long time, I never read or saw it.  So thanks for keeping it fresh, and hilarious for some of us.  Did the line about parrot droppings just coincidentally come into Gib's head, or was this a hold-over from his own enjoyment of the bit?  :)

I'll never be able to look at a thread between a ND and NU alum the same again, without peeing my pants laughing.   8) 8) ;D ;D

Dick,

Princess Smartypants and I periodically break into the Argument Skit; much to the consternation of her mother, we have the same sense of humor.

In case your were wondering, the airspeed velocity of an unladen sparrow is 11 Meters per second - or roughly 24 Miles per hour.

Gibby, we seem similarly blessed.  My princess smartypants is now 32 years old, and has graduated to Her Royal Smartyness, having obtained and education and status far beyond my own.  This however has no baring on how far off the beam she can sometimes stray...yet how close to the tree her apple has fallen.  Who would keep us on our toes and our argumentative juices sweet, if we only left it up to Mucci all the time?  ;) ;D ::)

There is a distinction between being a cyber bully and cyber douche bag although I can't imagine either finds it's way into the enviable column. There are also cyber name droppers, cyber know it alls and cyber wannabes. The world of social media is a confounding arena and those that wade in with the best of intentions often find out that what they perceive as a valid viewpoint is an opportunity for somebody having a bad day to settle another score altogether.

I don't think it's that hard to find those people.
Just look in the mirror.

Until he is gone GCA is not something I want to b part of.

YO, Adrian.

I just reviewed the last 20 pages and I didn't see a single thread that you initiated.
What makes you think you're a part of GCA  ?
You contribute nothing in terms of the discussions.

Maybe you make up for it by contributing in other ways.
Let me check the list.

I remember you from a long while ago and see that you haven't changed, you contribute nothing and whine incessantly.

The site is desperate for a moderator.

It has moderators.
Are you such an imbicile that you can't read the bottom of the screen.
Let me quote it for you

Golf Course Architecture (Moderators: Ben Cowan-Dewar, Ran Morrissett)

Bullys need to be eradicated.

If I remember correctly, when the discussions/debates got passionate, even contentious, you whined and complained.
The only thing that's changed is that you neither intitiate threads nor engage in the discussions, but, you're still whining and complaining.

You don't contribute to the discussions, and now you want, as a non-contributor, to run the website.

That's an interesting perspective.

Go lick your wounds and crawl back in your hole

Anyone who reads this board with any attention at all knows that Adrian Stiff and I have had our run ins.  Indeed our normal state of affairs is to be arguing with each other.  However, Adrian is an industry insider.  He is not only an architect (I cannot pass judgment on his quality, as I have not yet played one of his courses) but also owns and runs courses.  He has strong views on the industry which, whilst some (including me) may disagree with from time to time, are formed from his hands on experience of the business.  When he was a regular contributor here (which, despite the failing memory of an old man in the post above, he was) his contributions created real debate about real, GCA related issues.  GCA is a poorer place for Adrian Stiff not being a regular poster.

As I said above, I frequently disagreed, sometimes vehemently with Adrian.  However, we never resorted to abusing each other.  We managed to avoid overt rudeness.  We debated the point, presented our arguments and even, occasionally, acknowledged that the other had a point.  Neither of us resorted to green ink.  We didn't call each other morons, or use any other abusive term and we always remained civil.

I'm tired of people telling me what a nice person Pat Mucci is offline.  I'm sure he is.  People I know on this board who know him tell me I'd actually like him in person.  They are probably right.  However, his online persona is destructive and damages this board.  There are those who argue strongly on here and are occasionally abusive who get away with it because there is an evident streak of genuine humour in what they do.  They also, it has to be said, appear to actually read, understand and respond thoughtfully to others' posts.

Pat Mucci's response to Adrian Stiff shows, for me, all the reasons why Pat Mucci's online persona harms GCA more than he benefits it.  Which is a great shame because he clearly has an enormous amount to offer.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

I agree with Mark.  I usually view architecture very differently than Adrian does, but he is in the business trying to make a living.  In all our bust-ups I don't recall one foul word passed between us.  In truth, Adrian is a good sort who I wouldn't intentionally insult, we seem to understand the where the line is and stick to it.

There is no question Mucci has his line drawn in a very different place to many on this site.  Most seem to give Mucci a free pass for his many breaches of proper decorum because he is well liked in person.  Its a shame the man isn't willing to replicate his well liked personal demeanor on this board, but I reckon the man thinks he is humorous.  Unfortunately, if this is the case, Mucci thinks delivering the same punch line over and over is funny.

I would rather read more of Adrian's insight into the game than endure the endless tirades of Mucci.  Still, I don't think Mucci is trying to bully people.  Its his style to be boorish, overbearing and repetitive and he hopes others will join in.

You are judging him on his response to being labeled " a viler person you could not find" in an unprovoked attack by a poster who has returned after a long absence for the sole reason of jumping in and kicking the man who is already copping it from all angles?

Do read Mucci's posts?

No, not unless they are addressed to me.  Why would anyone read his posts?  They are often idiotic, inane, repetitive and argumentative for the sake of it.  Seriously, do  people read his posts?  Reading his posts would drive you insane.  No wonder people are getting worked up if it turns out they are reading his posts.

All I am saying is that in my experience I have not found him to be personally offensive.  Infuriating yes, offensive no.  I suspect some can't tell the difference.

Touche (insert acute accent as required) Mark.

In my limited time here I've always found this assertion that Pat is actually a good guy in person to be a sign that he's not man enough to insult anyone to their face. I've always believed that if you can't say it to someone's face, don't say it at all.

That said, I'm not sure Pat can be accused of bullying. To bully someone you have to first be able to demonstrate some position of dominance and Pat's ramblings have always struck me as the excessive protesting of a small boy trying too hard to prove he is in fact a self assured man. Maybe if Donald Trump could send him some sort of I-did-well-for-Mr-Trump-today stickers, complete with shinny stars and suchlike, he'd feel a little less inclined to painfully and embarrassingly try to show all the other grown-ups just how big and clever he is.  If the previous statements can be deemed offensive enough to be categorised as cyberbullying, I plead guilty as charged.

But seriously, the first time Pat insulted me I felt, well, insulted. The second time I smiled and the third time myself and my good lady laughed. Well, I laughed, she was insulted, but since then she's come to understand the game and 'Playing Patrick' has become an amusing source of entertainment on a cold winter's night. After all, you can't really take the man seriously, can you?

When I was a GCA virgin I got into a spat with Pat very early on and was a bit taken aback.  Then I watched a GCA stalwart intentionally press his buttons and play him like a green ink wind-up toy and laughed my ass off.  Anyone who takes him at face value the second, third, hundredth time around needs to take both Pat and themselves a bit less seriously IMO.  When you put a rat in a cage with an electric shock buzzer and he keeps going back to the buzzer after repeated shocks you have to question the rat's thought process...
