Does anyone know the latest on Clear Creek Tahoe?
« on: January 31, 2013, 09:50:30 PM »
Was hoping to get up there a while back to see it but didn't get the chance before hard times arrived.

Anyone know what the plans for the property are?  Will the course survive?

Any info appreciated.

A little birdie told me that it is under new ownership and will be open this summer! Bunkers were reworked last fall.

I've heard the same from someone who lives nearby and has had conversations with folks onsite.

Good news.

Any knowledge of whether it will remain completely private or perhaps open up a bit for outside play?

Bunkers were reworked last fall.

Any additional info on the bunker reworking?  Deferred maintenance?  Done for some other reason?

The bunkers look great in Ran's review.

Although the course was closed all last year, the former note holder is a client and was kind enough to arrange for me to play the course last August before they sold to the new owner. The course was in good shape considering it hadn't been open since the previous year. Green were fairly fast and bumpy, fairways were a little long, but looked great especially without a second cut. Bunkers had not been maintaned in months and made excellent, but penal hazards.

The new owner had already brought Coore back in to make the coure more playable. Crew was working on widing the hole corridors, additional tree removal, and were planning to revive the bunkers in the fall.

Good news about Clear Creek. I played there in the Kings Putter a few years ago and thought it was the best course near Tahoe. If you also want to play another good one, I played Incliine Villlage Championship course this summer after some redesign work was done a couple of years ago and thought that was very good also.

George,

Check out Joe's pictures. I think it shows why they needed a touch up. I apologize, but I don't have any more details about the GCA.

They brought in a Super from Old Sandwich who'd been the asst. there for several years.  He's familiar with C&C and how that course should be presented.  Nice opportunity for him and I hope the course is sucessful this time around.

Would anyone know who the new owner may be?

I, like most other people I have played with, think this is a very very very good golf course.

Having a local family house in the valley just below clear creek is AWESOME for me and my buddies...kicks the pants off genoa courses!

They are going to reopen in 2013 I'm happy to say.

I was there in October and C&C had rebuilt about 75% of the bunkers.

The Kentucky bluegrass fairways looked in remarkable great condition for not having been very well maintained for the last 2 years.  The greens will need some work but appeared to be alive.  A bit of work is needed on the irrigation system but they didn't seem concerned.

The new owners are actually the old owners, just a little lighter in the wallet and having gone through a bankruptcy filing and auction.

Here is the bunker on the 18th green when you don't maintain it for 2 years.

Should note that the club as well (as they told me) will NOT be open to public play and will be strictly private.

"As mentioned, the Club is planned to be private for the enjoyment of the members and their guests.  It is not planned for accepting outside play, except for selected occasions when referred by a member or appropriate sponsoring party."

I say best of luck to them as they are both great guys (Jim and Chip) but they really have NO chance of making this happen any time in the near future. There just isn't the money in the carson valley, or in that part of tahoe to sustain this club right now.

But then again, what do I know, I almost bought property up there! :)

I don't see why the club wouldn't want to affiliate itself with one of the Southshore casino's to increase business. It is a far better course than Edgewood and not that far from Stateline. It still wouldn't be completely public but the increased business coud support the membership. They could even host the Celebrity Pro AM to get exposure.
