Being my first Dixie cup - Are we on our own to work out lodging? or is this usually coordinated as a group?

Given the short distances involved for the golf and the wealth of accommodations in the area - as well as the personal preferences of many who are already familiar with Pinehurst and have personal favorites - everyone should make their own arrangements. I'll make three suggestions - the Pinecrest Inn, a perennial favorite in the center of Pinehurst, Comfort Suites at Olmsted Village, and the condos available for rent through travel services like Tobacco Road, Condotels, etc. The Pinecrest will be a good meeting point for drinks and hanging out but where you sleep will be a personal choice.

I reserved at the Pinecrest Inn yesterday.

Checking in on the 10th and checking out on the 13th. It looks like they can set up access to Mid Pines if we need that for Thursday.

Jim - can you have them have set up at least one time for the four of us that expressed interest? Sometime between 1 and 2 Thursday afternoon?

I'm looking into condo(s) or rental homes via VRBO. There's a ton of what seem to be great homes either within the village (or decent walking distance to it and the main Pinehurst clubhouse) that are of nicer quality than comfort inn and lower price than Pinecrest.

Chip, does the Pinecrest price include dinner?  It usually does, and breakfast for sure.

Pinecrest includes breakfast and dinner based on the reservation I made.

Hard to compare with a VRBO home that doesn't include meals!

Even when I stay somewhere else I usually wind up the Pinecrest at night any way!

Awesome. Thanks Jim.

I may try to play Sanford Friday morning. According to Chris Buie, it's a Donald Ross muni not far from Tobacco Road that's worth a look if you are playing TR and want a second round that day somewhere else. It's like $14 to walk there.

Breakfast and dinner? That is nice!

The VRBO homes I found were an average of $100-$125/night all in (taxes and room) and within 10min walk of Pinecrest.

Just called Pinecrest and seemed decent considering you get 2 good meals out of it ($10 breakfast + $3 dinner)

The quoted me a single room = $170 night ($134 +15% service +10% taxes).

Has anyone thought about approaching them for a group rate? Glad to make the call if I can get a sense of the # of people.

That's the rate I signed on for. I'll gladly sign on for a group rate is possible.

Its hard to look at a Dixie Cup list and miss Bill McBride in attendance

Dead conflict with best friend's birthday, a big one.  And they are paying for the condos on Maui.    ;D.  I will be back.

My withdrawal will make someone happy!

Back in.  Turns out there's a two week gap before we head to Maui!

Spoke with Pinecrest - they're not able / willing to wheel and deal on any kind of group rate.

Single rooms are $170 all in with meals and taxes; Doubles are $144 all in and both are filling up quickly.

2 key questions at this point:
1) Do folks want to double up? They're already down to 12 rooms left on the property for that weekend. If not, will want to start planning alternatives.
2) Do folks really want to have 3 dinners at Pinecrest or have lower cost / different options?

As a foodie I would NOT vote for 3 dinners at Pinecrest and would rather save $$$ on lodging and use it for food...but that is just me.  If we all end up at Pinecrest I am certainly up for sharing with someone, and for offsite lodging (like a condo or something) I'd also be up for sharing.
