Tillinghast Memorabilia??
« on: January 21, 2013, 12:35:42 PM »
I am a 'newbie' and thoroughly excited to be part of GCA!  Hopefully I won't type anything too stupid so forgive me if my first topic is less than exciting but if anyone can help us, it's the GCA members.  Many of you know that The Philadelphia Cricket Club will be restoring our Wissahickon course beginning in June under the watchful eye of Keith Foster and Director of Grounds Dan Meersman.  Parallel to the restoration is an effort to help capture and display our history - the club was founded in 1854 and A.W. Tillinghast, the architect of the Wissahickon course, was actually a member.  We are looking for any kind of Tillinghast memorabilia - books, letters, paintings, drawings, anything that might help us tell our story, particularly as it relates to A.W..  I've done all the usual suspects - Ebay, Google, The Tillinghast Society, etc. - if anyone has any ideas on where to find things related to Tilly, please share!  Thanks in advance for your thoughts and consideration and I look forward to continuing to enjoy the great threads on GCA.

I'm assuming you mostly desire ADub stuff as it relates to Philly Cricket, Jim?

Phil Young's book is a pretty good work on the big picture Tilly.

P.S.  I very much look forward to see Foster's work.

Welcome Jim !!!

You've come a long way from The Abington Club, the former site of the Old York Road CC.

As you know, Tillinghast renovated the existing course at Abington in the the 1920s.

My wife was one of your students there when she decided to "take up golf."  We were sorry to have you leave Talamore CC but your move to Cricket was a good move for you. We've now relocated to Arizona and I look forward to your participation here.

Steve - 7 years later I'm still pinching myself that I get to come to Cricket to work every day!  It may be a long way from The Abington Club but my roots will always be there and at Talamore.  Hope our paths cross in person soon.

Jim,

A warm welcome to GCA! There is a Tilly Society I believe that would be an excellent starting point. One usually has a few ferrets within those associations who know who's holding some good stuff. Not sure they'd part with any of it, but one never knows...

Cheers,
