Either way it's still impressive that a new 36 hole facility has 2 top 100 candidates on opening day, and in Florida no less.  Not even Bandon could say that.

Jud:  Yes.  However, the client won't be happy if that's where the two courses wind up; their goals are loftier.

I have tried to tell them they shouldn't make comparisons right away with Bandon, or ask for them.  Bandon Dunes didn't compare themselves to Pebble Beach when it opened ... they let other people make the comparisons.  [Some people still object vehemently to that; Mr. Keiser always just says that even being compared to Pebble Beach is amazing.]  But I guess it's harder to avoid talking about it since Bill and Ben and I have worked in both places.

In the end, there's no ocean at Streamsong, and I think that's the #1 difference between the two places.  In fact, I am going to use these courses as a proxy to see how much the ocean is worth in the rankings, compared to my other famous projects which are on the ocean.

Interesting point.  Now I really want to get down there!  How many other resorts in the U.S. can boast 2 top 100 courses?  Bandon, Pebble and Whistling Straights, depending on what lists you swear by.  Pinehurst proper doesn't even make the grade at the moment.  And while you can play Pebble and Bandon in the winter, Streamsong has already cornered the market for higher-end fair weather golfers between November and April.

I think I just read on this thread that Bandon is sold out for the month of February, four courses plus.  That's impressive!

That would be amazing, if it's true ... especially to someone who has lived in Bandon during the month of February.

However, it's not quite as impressive as you said, since Bandon Trails is closed this winter for renovation work.

I assume "sold out" means rooms, not golf rounds.

Could be, I think I was quoting Eugene resident Gray Grieve who's pretty up to date on matters Bandon.

Either way it's impressive given winter weather I've seen out there!
