« on: January 14, 2013, 09:21:16 PM »
Weather in the mid 50s in mid January?  Can't beat it!

I could get used to this...

A few pics from my round at Wykagyl this past Sunday...a little soggy and temp greens of course but not bad at all for this time of year.

Looking back at hole 1, par 5

Hole 2, par 4

Hole 5, par 4

Hole 6, par 5

Hole 8, par 4

Hole 9, par 5

Hole 10, par 5

Hole 14, par 4

Hole 18, par 4

I had given up on the season, but 18 inches of snow melted away in the last 7 days in Upstate New York, so Terry Hills (between Buffalo & Rochester) opened up yesterday.

It hit 62 degrees, but there were still snow drifts scattered throughout, creating some interesting centerline hazards (and a few truncated greens).  Nonetheless, course was built on an old gravel pit, so was very playable.  By the time I left, there were 60+ cars in the lot.

I played today north of Boston in shortsleeves (62 degrees and sunny) on one of the few courses open - Cape Ann , in Essex.  Not a great layout, but the 4th hole, with sweeping  180 degree water views,  is truly spectacular

It wasn't this weekend, but I got out for a round last week. It was a warm 50 degrees here in Colorado. Conditions were are completely opposite from the Oregon winters I have become accustom to, instead of mushy everything is very firm.

18 both Saturday and Sunday in Hershey, PA. A little mushy and temps got much above a misty 52 or so. Many courses open and it was great to be out!

After waiting 5 years to get in the Coronado Mens Golf Club I played my first torunament over the weekend. Stranglely enough we had to skip the tee times and play a shotgun both days because of the danger of frost! Very unlikely to have frost that close to the Ocean in San Diego; temps statred out in the 30's but warmed to a brisk 50 degrees by noontime. OK, I'm become soft and spoiled. ;)

Pete Lavallee -

You had frost on the coast  in San Diego? That is very surprising.

We had 1- to 2-hour frost delays here in the San Francisco Bay Area over this past weekend. The problem with the winter weather here is that, if the temps are mild, it is usually raining. However, when it is clear, the temps over night can drop down in the 30's.

I didn't notice that any Detroit area courses were open. Even if they were we had 2 parties to attend on Saturday and Sunday was booked. However I did drag my clubs on a business trip to LA last week and played Rustic Canyon.  ;D

My course near Portland, OR was closed because of frost/freezing over the weekend

Well, it was enjoyable while it lasted, as Westchester is now blanketed in snow/slush  :(

If things don't get better at least I can look forward to Presidents Day in Miami!

I played this weekend - we have been flooding so the course was extremely wet with a couple of extra "ponds".  1 good think about living in Louisiana  ;D

Played 18 at Moliets near Bordeaux on Friday in a perfect 65 and sunny.  Just a hint of breeze to make it a good challenge.  It was a great way to start the year before coming back to a snow storm in Geneva.

My two (grown up) sons and I played 9 holes at Wilmslow on Saturday. Temperature was about 8 degrees C but it felt a lot colder with a big wind chill factor. Clear skies, no temporary greens, forward (grass) tees, the fairways (which have been waterlogged) remarkably dry, no residual water in bunkers. It was super. We couldn't play more holes because there was a winter league competition for which we were ineligible and we couldn't start until the afternoon.

We were due to play in a medal tomorrow. But the snow has already closed the course and there is more snow due overnight. But to keep the clubhouse open and staff in employment they'll probably allow sledging on the 18th with families coming into the clubhouse in their stocking feet to warm up on mulled wine and Welsh rarebit.

Didn't play in Vegas.  Sunny, but too cold.  I think the high where I live was around 37 or 38.  Frozen greens...  This weekend should be great however.  Highs in the 60's.
