Pretty much exactly my first thought looking through those photos.

Btw.  It was a compliment.

No doubt. I've heard enough good things about Victoria National to know that I need to prioritize cashing in that invite you tossed my way a few months back. I though the visual similarity off the tee (in photos) of Coore & Crenshaw's course was surprising, but not a turn-off.

I do wonder how the course would be received around here with a different designer, but I wonder that about almost every course designed by someone under the "minimalist" flag anyways.

From Jud on the other thread:

Was there more distance variation from the 6100 tees?

I sort of felt about The Red similar to the way that I feel about Yale. The back tees at Yale are 6750 and the member tees are 6100+. The back is a little too far on some holes and the member tees are a little too short, so we end up doing a mix and match at Yale.

The Red had that same feel to me, and here is an example from Frank's photos of the difference between the back two sets of tees and the front two sets of tees:

I never felt uncomfortable on The Black tees on The Doak. A variety of options with varying returns on The Doak.

Frank Sullivan played in front of us yesterday and maybe he will chime in.

For what it is worth, I had the great pleasure of playing both the Red and the Blue over the weekend.  In a nutshell, these are "must play" courses.

Must play for many reasons, but the truly unique aspect of them is their use of minimalist/naturalist designers working on reclaimed mining sites.  Mind-blowing and surreal to see a the "natrual" beauty on this type of property.  And even though they are both beautiful, I think the Red is a notch above regarding this aspect.

Regarding the water issues...too much is being made of that on this website.  Most water on the courses are angled and you can take it on, or not.  And, as always, play the correct tees for your game.  Water is not a total non-issue, but it certainly doesn't taint the enjoyment of the courses in any way, shape or form.

Both courses are in keeping with the stereoptypical mantra of the designers...fast and firm, options, interesting greens with a lot of strategy involved to play the courses "correctly".  One note to this however, the maintenance of the courses are damn near ideal.  The way they are kept is in perfect lock step with the design and magic of golf really seems to come to life when the design and maintenance are perfectly in sync, like they are at Streamsong.

Thanks for the review Mac...really looking forward to playing them.

Just to chime in on here, I hadn't seen it broadcast many places...Streamsong does offer a replay rate.  First round is base of $174 (plus cart or caddie) and second round is $90 base (plus cart or caddie).  The plays can be on either course.

Josh,

I asked about the replay rate in the shop when I checked in the day before yesterday.  They told me $115.  Then in conversation with the starter and then Kyle Harris, who was driving by, one said he thought it was $100 and the other said no, he's heard it was $110.  So, it seems they have a replay rate, but you'd best wait and see what they actually charge you.  For the others who have been there and played, how much were you charged?

Mark,

Thanks.  Maybe on the $115 rate they quoted me they included a cart but not the mandatory forcaddie.

Could be. I think cart is $25. We walked and carried in both rounds (no additional cost, obviously).

I'll report back once I actually get charged...but was quoted $90.

I just wanted to mention the replay rate as I hadn't heard about it before a couple days ago.

The forecaddie is paid directly.  The shop has nothing to do with it.
