Golf Leven Tomorrow?

So me and Niall are planning on a few holes at leven tomorrow to blow away some of the new year cobwebs. Unfortunately GOODALE has a case of the dreaded lurgie. Any fellow gcaers available to join us for a wee round (golf n beer naturally)?

If only.  No lurgie here, whatever the hell that is, but a full plate of work.  Which is actually a pleasant development!

Uncle B good to hear the order book is full. Hopefully this means an upcoming UK visit!
We had 16 really good holes today. Weather sunny and 12 degrees! I hope N will chip in with some thoughts on leven. I think he enjoyed it on this replay. Was very good just getting out.

So you have made the jump to Leven, well done.  Be looking for a game in August.....
Don't tell me you got the house in Leven as well.

So Neffers, an honest answer please.  You've played both Lundin and Leven, old and "new" holes.   What are your thoughts and opinions?

I love Lundin, but those holes up above....

Played Leven and loved it. I thought there was a significant amount of good golf to be had. When I played it, May 2011, it was not in the best of shape but I still loved it and very much look forward to a return visit. Sunny with a nice 15mph wind made for a great day out.

Holes 1-5 are a very nice opener with a the tee shot on 2, the green on 3 and the par three 5th memorable. I also liked:

The shot on 7 (I generally like par threes that have a lot of dead ground and you can only see the flag)
The 10th with the risk of the gorse long (I left my tee ball pin high right up on the rise and had a beast of a chip running down to the green with the bunker behind the pin)
The tumbling ground on 14 and trying to figure out what to hit in off of a tight lie
16 was a neat hole bringing you right into town and the challenge of the burn behind
17's tumbling fairway and 18 just to beat you in the head as you decide whether or not to challenge the burn on your second

I have not played Lundin, but felt Leven was all of the golf I need and if Lundin is better I need to play it on my next trip over.

Stan happy new year. Hope you're not getting blown away over there? Yes made the move to leven at last. Looking forward to hosting in August. Didn't buy the house - yet! Still on the market...

Uncle Bill you'll need to see and play leven next visit. I think the 'blander' holes are better than lundin's bland holes. For one thing there's no climbing up the hill! Leven has some really good holes. As Jim says, the opening holes along the water are cool. 14 is a fun rolling par 4 to a fabulous green site which blows me away every time I play it. 16 is probably my least favorite hole as it plays over the least linksy terrain to a fairly bland green, but it's still okay. 18 is an awesome closer.

My recollection of Leven is of a great set of greens (big, too!) and, like Lundin, some great dunes holes.  Difficult for me to choose between Leven an Lundin.  I'll be looking for a game in the summer (and maybe Easter, too...)

Many thanks for hosting. Much more to the golf course than I remembered with some great holes. As someone pointed out, the 16th is about the only really blandish hole on the course. What was also interesting was that the more inland holes had just as much contours, if not more so, than the holes by the water, and that the newer holes had more contoured greens. Overall, a sound investment Mr Bonnar.
