Well, we're here in Alkmaar, sitting in an Eetcafe over the Gracht and just had some fantastic fish. Tomorrow it's the cheese market. Who needs golf in the Netherlands ;)

I was in Rotterdam last week on business and had the distinct pleasure to play Royal Hague.  It was absollutely exquisite. Virtually every hole memorable and the stretch of 13 through 18 some of the best holes I have ever played, and I have had the privilege to play Cypress Point, MacArthur, The Medalist, Hirono, Chicago, Yale, The Creek and several others.  I'm a National Member of Prairie Dunes, and I would describe Royal Hague as Prairie Dunes on steroids.  Prairie Dunes' great undulating ribbon fairways on 8 and 9 are my favorites there.  Virtually every par 4 and 5 at Royal Hague has similar ribbon fairways.  Byron Nelson once said that if you have a level lie, then you have hit it in the wrong place.  You all will have a memorable round at Royal Hague. Best wishes.

David,

The best news here is that all is well in Oregon.

That said, I can't wait to get playing.  A couple of beers tonight and, perhaps, some Indonesian food, then 180 holes in five days on what I'm expecting to be a great variety of excellent courses.  That and GB&I (or Europe or whatever team we are) regaining the BUDA Cup.  Bring it on!

It's better to bring one just in case. I believe it's the norm to wear jacket and tie for the meal, but I've only attended on BUDA, so I could be wrong.

I know someone asked about shorts on one of the earlier threads on BUDA XI. What was the conclusion? Do you need to wear knee-high socks?

Hi guys, golf shorts are accepted in all clubs in NL I think. No need for knee high socks unless of course you want to.

Jacket and tie are an option. I probably won't do that. Maybe a jacket and button down shirt. (dress shirt). Tie is optional.

I'm on Texel right now, an island off the coast of North Holland. They have a 9 hole links course here, which is in the process of being extended to 18 holes. Looks like true linksland throughout, although with a lot of water. Maybe burns, but I couldn't see whether they connected to the ocean. Very interesting to say the least, could be a hidden gem. I would estimate that the new holes will open sometime next year. Newly built links courses are always good news. Apparently the land was agricultural, which may be the reason they allowed it to be restored to linksland in the form of golf holes.

gents,

Sunday we are starting at 9 am at Swinkelsche. Please try to be there on time so we can go out as a group.

Ulrich,

Indeed the Texelse golf course is expanding. The work is being done a golf architect that is a member of my club named Alan Rijks. He also did the first 9. I've not played it, I don't believe in 9 holes of golf. Ok outside the sacred 9 which is the first 9 holer I've played in a long time.

See you on Sunday morning.

Sunday evening in my case, if you would be so inclined as to make an appearance at the hotel bar :)

I checked into the hotel tonight and found out that they serve breakfast from 7 AM. So for the first two days (8 AM in Noordwijk and The International) this is going to be a close shave. Maybe push back some of the afternoon tee times? :)

Hi Ulrich,

Yes I will but it's probably going to be fairly late as we are playing 36 during the day. Maybe too late but we shall see.

Regards,

David

Guys it's with heavy heart that I have to say I wish I could join you but I can't!   My back has let me down and intensive physio work this week hasn’t done nearly enough.

I did let David know and I'm sorry to have added yet more reorganising to his tasks.  I've been pleased to have been a sounding board for him off line so I do know that he's done a phenomenal amount of work to make this happen.  Others would easily have given up when presented with the obstacles thrown up. Suffice to say this outing is a first for Netherlands golf in so many ways.

The practicalities.
1 I have the Buda Cup – sorry!
2 Craig Discher and Mark Chaplin were due to travel with me and sadly they will now be absent too.
3 DEPOSITS.  spoken with the club and can transfer the money to them on Monday If any questions remain please speak directly with me on 00447973919809.

My apologies,  I can only add I would love to be there.
Enjoy.

Gentlemen,

This is the first Buda I will be missing since my debut back at Porthcawl and Pennard, and I'm really going to miss it! It looks like David has done an excellent job, and I'm sure you will all have an amazing time!

Tony,

Sorry to hear about your back. Hope all clears up soon! As I'd have been with you if I was able to make it this year, I'm not sure what I would have done?  8)

Cheers,

James

Tony - Say it isn't so!!! Even with a bad back you should come and be with us. You have already set aside the time and funds... plus, you probably wouldn't have won your matches anyway, so your team will benefit!!!  ;D

Seriously, I hope you will reconsider and come and be with us. Who knows, perhaps your back will improve and allow you to play a bit.

As for Craig and Chappers... what do you mean you are not coming??? Get your asses in gear and get over here. I can get you back to England on Thursday if you can get here.  I'll be glad to pick you up at a ferry dock or airport if necessary. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

Ward and I had a good tourist day in Amsterdam today and are fully rested for the Buda. Beware of the Indiana Thrasher!!!

Conrad and I (but sadly not Conrad's clubs, which BA, having delivered Conrad 24 hours late to Schipol have left at Heathrow) are in Eindhoven, raring to go for tomorrow.  Does anyone know if the clubs we are playing might have hire clubs available if BA don't get Conrad's clubs to us in time?
