I just got word from the board of Eindhovensche that they have waved the greenfees for the people visiting on the Sunday afternoon before the BUDA, a very nice and valuable gesture...

Currently I have listed for that visit:

One rule of the time we are starting is no 3/4 balls so we will have to play 2 balls. However if it is very calm, which I expect, we can rearrange after a few holes.

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

That is indeed incredibly generous of them, great job on organizing that. I guess what they say about below the river and above the river remains true to form. Thanks for all your help in the organizing process and especially with Royal Hague too. I personally look extremely forward to the trip down South myself. Don't get there as much as I should and I love Eindhovensche. The course will likely be in great shape come July, fingers crossed on the weather and we are really looking at a great time.

I'm scheduled to arrive at the hotel on Saturday with the intention of playing on Sunday, so add another freeloader to the party.

Question:

Being optiistic and hoping for warm weather, what is the policy on shorts at these Netherlands clubs.  Allowed, allowed but frowned upon, allowed with special equipage (e. g. knee socks) or disallowed altogether.  I can't help being ugly and I can't help being American, but I'd like to avoid being an Ugly American.

At most clubs shorts are allowed but with knee socks. In practice you drop the knee socks once out of sight of the clubhouse.......

Just heard from Swinkelsche.

For the BUDA participants who are going to join us on Sunday they will be offering a green fee of 27.50 euro, including a welcome cup of coffee and a piece of vlaai (a southern Dutch type of pie).

Good value given that their normal weekend greenfee is north of 60 euro.

Hey guys,

Hope you are all getting excited, played my first round on summer greens at Noordwijkse on Sunday. Course is in great condition and it was just marvelous. I need to get an exact number for the post BUDA golf on Thursday and possibly Friday.

Thursday I'm working on Kennemer. I will send a mail to all the signed up participants but if there are others planning to come now is when we need to know if you want to participate in more golf than just the BUDA Mon-Wed.

Let this be seen as a last call. If you have been riding the fence and our still thinking about it, get your butt in gear and tell us now or forever hold your peace!

We have set up a week you will never forget full of great golf, a fun group, and perhaps a little Dutch culture.

If you don't jump on this last chance you will be kicking yourself afterwards reading about it and hearing the stories for years to come.

Me, I'll see you there, I'm looking extremely forward to all the great golf and I've played all the courses except Frank's new one already several times.

Thanks for all of the work you have done organizing golf and accommodations.  This should be a fantastic event. 

For those who haven't been to one, these Buda cups are a perfect opportunity to play overseas without having to organize a group or, really, organize much of anything.  Just show up and play (well, that and complain about handicaps).

Just the truism that the Euro's HCP posted off tournament scores vs our GHIN system of casual golf still rarely affords the necessary advantage to vanquish the invading hordes

Just heard from the board of Hoge Kleij, a heathland course by Frank Pennink (who also designed Noordwijk), that the people of BUDA are welcome on Friday to come and play the course.

Similar to Eindhoven I have been able to arrange that NO greenfee will need to be paid.

The course lies 5 min drive from De Pan so that it would be quite easy to combine both in one visit.

HK is usually ranked about 10th in Holland. It lies in hilly terrain which is quite unusual for Holland. I have last year completed a complete 18 holes overhaul of all bunkers, tees and green surrounds. I think you will enjoy it.

Let me know if there are any people who want to take up this offer and I will arrange the logistics together with David.

Guys...

Is anyone familiar with the options in Holland/Belgium/France for a pre-paid data sim card for an iPad? In the UK I purchase a 3G card from the Three Network for about £25. Is there anything like that will work while I'm in Europe?

Also, any advice on pre-paid phone sims? I use TalkMobile in the UK and the cost is quite reasonable. A £10 top-up usually lasts me a couple of weeks, including calls back to the States.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Great news, well done David!

David and/or BUDA participants, do we have a view on how many will want to play both De Pan and Hoge Kleij on Friday?

It would be useful to know numbers and timing, eg if they play Pan in the morning and Hoge Kleij in the afternoon.

That way I can get back to the board of Hoge Kleij for finalising the logistics.

I just paid my deposit via PayPal.  My schedule is pretty flexible at this point.  I know that I'm going to head to Europe sometime (whenever I finish my school requirements and drive across country) and then I'll be coming back stateside before 5 August.  I'm planning on playing as much golf as my wife will allow, so count me in for any of the golf where there are open slots.
