Sean is one of the stars of GCA and his course reviews are usually on the nail.

I always enjoy knocking it about with Sean.  He is great company and boy, does he know golf course architecture.

A funny story about playing with Sean comes from a round down at Burnham & Berrow, where I brought along a friend from the Czech Republic called Jakub. Now Jakub has very good English, but he struggled with Sean's thick and fast Detroit accent.  We had a fun game and a beer afterwards, before Jakub and I set off home, at which time Jakub turned to me and said, "Robin, Sean is a great guy and I really enjoyed our game, but I didn't understand one single word he said all day.  Not one ***ing word!  I just nodded and smiled".
2024: RSt.D; Mill Ride; Milford; Notts; JCB, Jameson Links, Druids Glen, Royal Dublin, Portmarnock, Old Head, Addington, Parkstone, Denham, Thurlestone, Dartmouth, Rustic Canyon, LACC (N), MPCC (Shore), Cal Club, San Fran, Epsom, Casa Serena, Hayling, Co. Sligo, Strandhill, Carne, Cleeve Hill

Sean have you ever thought about doing a book along the lines of "Golf Courses of UK under £100"...?

You have the knowledge, pics and there is a market out there I'm sure for an honest assessment of realistically priced golf in the UK.

Just a thought?

I had the good fortune to play with Sean here in Philly a few years ago.  Other than being a Red Wings fan, he was a great guy that really cared about GCA.  Thanks!

Thanks again all.  It strikes me that folks are talking about someone else!

Don't listen to Boonie, when he is on song, I can't touch him.

Henry - I love Prestwick from the Long Table to Alps.  There is a wonderful balance of funk and hard nose golf - indeed some of the hard nose golf is funky.  TOC would probably be my first choice if weren't for the hassle of getting a game and the awful deal with mats when one is trying to avoid the summer crowds.  However, if I were to be a member, I would choose Rye.  I like the area and proximity to London.

Doc Hiseman - funny, I was thinking Jakub had an accent!  We had a great day for him to see his first links.  What is Jakub up to?

Dan - I confess, my addiction for the Wings has been problematic for many a year.  But please don't tell me you support the Broad St Bullies!

Mark R - I still want to get up to Welshpool this summer/fall!  Are you still game?

Sean,

Since this is an interview please allow me one question.

Why do you who has made thousands of worthwhile posts that both reflect favorably on yourself and this site now post under a fake name?

If I could understand your motivation I think that I could understand those whose majority of posts are an embarrassment to themselves.

JK, surely one couldn't put the difference and motivation of a JK Rowling using a nom de plume to write out of her known element in the same category of a chap like Sean using an underscore and his last initial as a new moniker.  One might consider JKR was hesitant to write about a milieu that was so foreign to her normal line of subject matter that she might be ridiculed if the book and descriptions were not credible.

While maybe Sean_A is about to write his first novel of international intrigue set on a rota of golf courses that aren't 'the usual suspects' to give the story a certain je ne se qua...  more likely,  Sean_A is highly confident that anyone that enjoys a good descriptive photo journey of a golf experience off the beaten path, will instantly recognize that there is 100% probability that Sean_A and Sean Arble is uniquely identifiable with a talent and passion to share his interesting perspectives of an AmericanGolfer in Jolly Old...

It turns out that JKR and S_A have nothing to be embarrassed about.  Does your confusion linger?
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

My understanding is that Sean's in the process of legally changing his name to Sean_A, similar to my own juridical situation.  Wouldn't want to cause any more sleepless nights in Louisville than is already inflicted by a local dinner of country fried steak, hushpuppies, pinto beans and moonshine...

I recently had two rather harsh incidents which really threw me for a loop.  Even though I try to be even handed, I will say these incidents did make me go back and read some of what I wrote and that can't be bad.  In any case, I wanted to be hidden from a quick search, but easily identified by those on this site and those that know me.  I think I have achieved this.  Sorry if you find this bothersome, but I am sure you can understand my position.

Sean,

I have had meetings with attorneys on more than one occasion over what I have said on this site.  So, no I do not understand who you are hiding from given the quality of your posts.

Obviously many other posters who have hit a glitch either at work, their clubs or at home have also decided to post under fake names.  Since Ran condones this behavior it is not my issue and need to work past this myself.  I guess I'm just a little jealous but respect John Kirk too much to post under John K.

Thank you for answering my question and please consider those lurkers who read this article and search for Sean Arble.  You're not there anymore which I believe is a greater loss than you may have envisioned.

That's very nice of you to say, John.  Of course, we could probably get away with being "John K." and "The Other John K." for a few days without serious repercussions.

Thanks for the interview, Ran and Sean.

I've always enjoyed Sean's golf course profiles as they expose me to courses I would otherwise have never heard of.  They truly show the depth of wonderful golf in GB & I.

I'm confused, however, by the response to the favourite course over 100 pounds?  Do you really prefer Prestwick & Rye to courses like Muirfield, The Old Couse, RCD or Portrush?  Also, I didn't think Rye was that expensive?

Henry

Read Ran's review of Prestwick and it should spell out why I would pick Prestwick.
