As I sit at my brother in laws in Ardmore PA just 300 yards from the 9th tee box at Merion East, I am getting extremely excited for the Open.  This course holds such amazing history it also holds some personal history for me.  I beat my father for the first and only time in my life at Merion after 25 years of challenging him. We will be playing around Philly the weekend before and hosting friends in town for the Open and would love to add more folks to the celebration of Merion.

I didn't get play it but they were kind enough to let me walk around a little, the place is awesome. It oozes golf and golf history, when people tell you that Ardmore Ave. goes by the course I didn't expect it to mean it went through the course. The shop is pretty expensive in there but that didn't stop me

Ironically, I've never used a long putter but that odyssey arm lock putter looks intriguing.
If nothing else as a teaching aid.

Hendren, Lulu is in a tough spot. I played early this year, club house is abandon and it's now a public golf course. I believe there were only 30 members when the year started. Amazing Ross design, just wasn't in great shape.  Ed, are your buddies ashes on the walk from the fairway to the green?  Linda Hartough's attempt to capture the essence of East with a look at 16 http://www.hartough.com/Shop/new-releases-and-best-sellers/the-16th-hole-2013-us-open-championship-east-course-merion-golf-club  Hartough and MGM are my two favorite landscape artists.  It is to early for me to make my opinion on Linda's portrayal of 16.

well one was in the bunker in the quarry , that was his wish. The second is to the right of the green on a small rise, we tried to put him somewhere where folks would not be walking on him.

I'm worried that the USGA might trick it up too much/lose control of another golf course. Fingers crossed.

Well we plan to be hosting clients and the well-behaved GCA faithful that make the trek to Merion, from near and far. Stan Zontek, beloved Dean of Turf for the USGA Mid-Atlantic Region, who very sadly passed this past Summer, will be with us in spirit that week in June at Merion. We also plan to have all donations go to a college scholarship fund honoring his legacy. Stan was a superb friend of the game who constantly tried to help others, both personally and professionally.

The venue has been secured and is the same lovely church and grounds that served us so well during the 2009 Walker Cup. Details will be provided early in the New Year and an RSVP protocal will follow. With dry weather it should be an epic week and we look forward to re-connecting with the GCA gang, both old and new.
