Winter Golf in the Chop Hills
« on: November 26, 2012, 03:55:59 PM »
I love winter golf. In Kansas, it is the best time of the year to get the ball rolling along the countours of the dormant zoysia.

I stumbled across the following blog and pictures while being a GCA Nerd/Dork during some down time. I'm pretty sure I've never wanted to throw on a few layers, load up on the hand and feet warmers, load up the thermos/flask (whatever your pleasure) and play some golf after looking at these.

Not that the fescue at Ballyneal doesn't run fast, but I can't imagime how quick it is at this time of the year.

Who wouldn't want to chip and putt on these contours? I wish there was a picture of the E-Green.

The Chop Hills/Sand Hills region is one of my favorite places in the country. I can't imagine how hauntingly peaceful winter golf would be in this area.

Looks like a hoot, from those photos it looks like you can hit, putter, putter, putter, putter for a birdie 4 on # 8...

They are open all winter through March, which is a nice coup for Denver area members who can watch the weather forecast and head east. Looks like great fun.

It's supposed to be in the 60s the rest of the week.  With little or no wind, that's about ideal golf weather this time of year.

Charlie's blog.  A serious student of the game, an essential cog in Ballyneal's hospitality, and most of all, a very nice man.

I didn't know they were open during the winter. That looks like some serious fun!

Jason,

That all depends on whether or not you can hit your putter straight, which I can't. Maybe I should look into this whole anchoring thing...

John,

I pretty much gathered all of that just by reading back through his posts. I really enjoy that there is some down and dirty stuff like bunker stabilization techniques right next to interesting commentary on the course and the surroundings as well. The post about driving the entire surrounding roads of Ballyneal, with pictures, was fantastic.
Is he on GCA? If not, he should be!

When it comes to course knowledge, club history, green reading and overall love of the game and BN, Charlie can't be beat. I also can't beat my opponent when he is on their bag.
