The Reverse Old Course and the proposed St. Andrews' Changes
« on: November 27, 2012, 04:07:33 PM »
From my understanding the Reverse Old Course used to get quite a reasonable amount of play, both directions in alternate weeks until the early 20th century and 4 weeks in the winter until the 1970's. Also hazards that don't seem to make little sense in the Old Course make a lot of sense in the Reverse Course.

Is this a reasonable synopsis?

A question that popped into my mind was how would the proposed changes to the Old Course affect the Reverse Course? Would the course play better or worse? Is the Reverse Course so insignificant now that it should have no consideration in changes to the Old Course?

Should the Reverse Course be played more often than it is at present?

I thought they stopped playing it in reverse.
For a few years it played backwards on April Fools weekend.

The major impact to the Reverse Old Will be the greatly softened approach to the hole played from the 13th tee to the 11th (High Hole In) green.  The approach into the usual prevailing wind had to carry Hill Bunker and then hit the brakes when it landed on those steep slopes in the back left corner of the green.  (Which becomes the front left corner in reverse).

That shot will now land softly on the newly flattened area - flattened by sacrilegious dimwits in my opinion.
