Posting to all those that all of a sudden think the roads are going to become more dangerous now that weed is legalized.  How many times have you read about a fatal car accident because the driver was high?  I can honestly say I have never heard of any deadly situation where weed was involved.  WHERE AS alcohol causes deadly accidents every minute of every day and there seems to be nothing wrong with that.

I've had many a friend find a ditch when a seed popped.

If anything the revenue from speeding tickets through Sterling should suffer.  What role can the legalization of recreational marijuana play in Colorado tourism?  I see it as a downer for golf.

It will actually be interesting to see what it will do to skiing. I was never really a pot smoker, and I never had an interest to ski moguls high on weed, but many do. It will be interesting to see how ski areas handle it, as it is part of the culture for some/many skiers. Now that it is legal it may move from the Back Bowls of Vail to more obvious places.

2 cents- Legalizing pot is not a marketing scheme, I doubt very much if people are all of a sudden going to start thinking maybe they should try this out. You might get some people who stayed away from it due to the legal issues but those people stayed away from it because it was illegal so I doubt very much that they drive under the influence to begin with.

it will still be the same idiots doing the dui's as before.

C'mon Mike, I want to read your thoughts.  You can always go back in a couple days and erase it. :)

Okay Alex.  I posted that in my 54 years I've never tried the stuff.  Couldn't help but wonder if that's rare among treehouse members.

I have a friend who has one of the first medical marijuana companies in Colorado.  I'm thinking this won't be bad news for him...

Bogey,

You are not alone.  I too have never tried the stuff, and never will.

What does this mean for private clubs prohibition against illegal drugs?  Clubs may have to hastily ammend the rules.

The good news is that legalization failed in Oregon. I can only imagine the number of wrecks on Highway 38 between I-5 and Reedsport if that law had passed.

In Oregon you can't go to jail for possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, however ithat still gets you a non-criminal citation. This year's Oregon initiative was much broader in scope than either the Colorado or State of Washington initiatives. Expect the US Open at Chambers Bay to be much more mellow.

Last time I played dope-stoned was in the 1976 Fairfield County Marijuana Open.  I played with with my grandfather's hickories and had to be hand-carried to each tee as I was having so much fun with the practice swings in the rough.

All that being said, it looks likely that BUDA XI will be held somewhere near Amsterdam.  It could be memorable.....

If the "Big Dinner" is here, I may have to make a reunion trip to the Melkweg:

Why?

I doubt clubs would openly violate Federal Statutes which continue to consider marijuana an illegal drug.

The last time I was in Amsterdam, I saw a bluegrass show of all AC/DC covers at the Melkweg then, caught a cab to Kennemer for a solo 27 holes where I was treated so well!  After spending half a day in the Van Gogh Museum and grabbing a few kabobs, my weekend was complete!  A great trip indeed!
