The Pinecrest Inn turns 100!
« on: November 03, 2012, 05:34:08 PM »
Cheers to the Barrett family, Mr. Ross, and anyone else who has helped to preserve this wonderful old place for so many of us to enjoy before or after a great day of golf.   Too many memories to list, but where else could a large group bring their own cooler into the dining area and then chip to the fireplace with music, dancing, and drinking all around?  Can't wait to get back there for another pork chop!

I'm with you, Hart.  I would love to stay there for a GCA event with the gang.  Do the Pinehurst cougars still hang out at the piano bar?   ;D

Techincally, last Thursday marks the beginning of the 100th year of the Pinecrest. There will be a year-long celebration culminating on the 100th anniversary, next November.

The celebration last week was very well done. The program featured a speach by long-time regular, Ron Green, Sr., member of 5 different sports writing halls of fame. The village historian walked us through the history in the Inn, and we were entertained by a very good Donald Ross impersonator. Ross owned the Pinecrest for about 25 years. The grand finale was a 10 minute slide show featuring photos, old and recent, of owners, staff, and guests. There were many familiar faces.

There must have been about 300 people in attendance. I think most were also long-time regulars. One couple flew in from San Francisco for the event.

The Pinecrest is truly a special and one-of-a-kind place. I am proud to live less than two blocks from it.

The Pinecrest is an awesome place. A trip to Pinehurst isn't complete without at least a drink at the bar there.

Great place. Have had many huge times there and hope to have many more. Was there for dinner a couple weeks ago and it was very good. My wife and I went there about a month ago for breakfast and it was the deal of the century and excellent. Congrats to the PineCrest Inn and the Barrett's!

I was at the Pinecrest for dinner over the weekend. It was a great old place to hang out. And, I can confirm that the Pinehurst cougars most definitely hang out at the bar!

"Growllll'" (sound of cougars at the piano bar)

Was anybody chipping at the fireplace?

I did not see anyone chipping balls to the fireplace. Could that be a late evening activity? I hit the road by about 10pm...which probably was before many of the cougars were on the prowl.

Besides chipping into the fireplace, I didn't have a chance to play Dormie Club. I went with a group of guys who make an annual trip to Pinehurst, but as their guest I didn't think it would have been good form to change the itinerary.

In my experience both activities get going when the after dinner drinks kick in!
