The preliminary course layout is wild.  Lots of water, angled tee shots and bent fairways.  It appears to be a very elaborate design.

Who needs 3 driving ranges?
How much are they allowed to irrigate or do ranges not count?
Thinking of Bob, Rihc, Bill, George, Neil, Dr. Childs, & Tiger.

The range on the left is the Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy. The "practice area" on the bottom right looks like a short game area.

Ty Butler is the architect. I think he started the job between leaving RTJ2 and before he joined JMP, hence he is doing under his own steam.

If I recall correctly, this property is pretty flat and featureless.  It will be interesting to see how this project turns out.  My first reaction is that it looks like an interesting design but one that belongs in Florida rather than the desert.

If on the reservation, will they have irrigation limitations?

Perhaps they have a contract that requires them to take large quantities of effluent water, or pay penalties if they don't use that allotted contract.  It seems that between that potential requirement and the desire to mine fill and shaping material from lakes that are dug, this will certainly be something of a 'blue monster' in the desert.  I see there is one shared green, and some interesting routing decisions. Also, golf maintenance facility is shown,  but not sure where the clubhouse or casino is from first tee and warm up range... probably like Barona Creek Casino a distance away, with modest pro shop starter fee collection point and and sandwich grill at the start.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

What type of tee shot is called for on #8 if playing from the tips? How about the next tees up as well?

I hope the ponds are not effluent!   I can still smell the stuff from the ASU campus 25 years ago.

None of the State water restrictions apply to courses located on Indian reservations.

Jason: Despite the odor, effluent has never been the source of supply for ASU Karsten.

2 is longer than 15. 2 is a drive, wedge, and putt while 15 is possibly drivable.

The area on the bottom right is listed as a "Junior Practice Area," whatever that means.

After writing a paper on golf and the environment in high school, I have a hard time seeing how this project makes sense. There's so much exposed water and an incredible amount of unnecessary grass. I hope they come to their senses a bit on the two, but I doubt it.

Not only are artificial ponds a blight on modern golf courses. Artificial ponds on golf courses in Arizona is unconscionable. Did they mistake the landscape for Florida?

Why are artificial ponds in Arizona worse than anywhere else?
