Down about Osterville, MA there lies a very sleepy little Donald Ross course. Unbeknownst to many, it plies it's understated ways with complete disregard to the real world...

Voila! here it is for you to enjoy. I will expect Mr. Doak to chime in as his is the latest hand to cast a brush upon this canvas.

Malcolm:

My associates should get most of the credit for the bunker work and short game area at Oyster Harbors.

However, the best part of the course is the part we didn't change at all -- it's a great set of greens, one of the best Donald Ross ever built.

Thanks for posting these. It is a course I have always wanted to see, and haven
t seen much in terms of pics. I went to a wedding here once, but haven't gotten to play it yet.

I played Oyster Harbors this fall.  A truly lovely set of greens and a very nice course.  The par 5s lack the interest and strategy of the other holes on the course.  For some reason, the course had a very "low country" or Pinehurst feel to me.

I recommend a visit when in the area.

Although I really liked the greens at OH, I was a bit surprised that Tom Doak put these greens among Ross' very best.  I have played both Oakland Hills and Wannamoissett this Fall as well and I find them both to have a superior set of greens (but I will admit that I think both of those courses have all-world sets).

The pictures of the 7th through 9th remind me of Ross's other Cape Cod effort, Woods Hole, a course I really enjoy. I love the holes routed through the hilly Cape Cod terrain and the long vista behind the 7th green (a la the 16th and 17th at Woods Hole)

John,

I don't believe Ross ever worked on WHGC...I think Stiles & Van Kleek came in after the original nine were laid out by Thomas Winton.

Great pics Malcolm, keep em coming.

ps It was great to see you again last week and to get a chance to meet Carle.  I hope to see you on both of your home soils next summer.

I have played OH a few times.  I am also surprised by TD's comments about the greens, although they are really good.  I just thought that the water could have come into play.  It had the possibility to be a Fisher's Island.  It is a great place, however, in every sense.

Correct...and Ross worked at a few other CC layouts....Hyannisport, Bass River, Wianno
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....
