Blaketree National Closing
« on: October 25, 2012, 11:58:20 PM »
After rumors and all that Blaketree National north of Houston is closing Monday. I played Saturday and the course was in about the best shape I'd ever seen it. Coore and Crenshaw did most of the work for an eccentric millionaire named Thomas Blake. In the shop there is a picture of them together on the property, the Android picture I took of it didn't come out though. This is a real shame.

Sam It is a shame indeed. The owner managed to make changes all of which took a little C@C away. It is still a gem and I hate ot see it close.

Sam
C&C built 1/2 the course before the oil crash.
Blake finished it on his own afterwards.
And continued to tinker after it was opened - especially 8,9 & 12 - they got worse.

It was still one of my favorites.
The site was fantastic.
Quiet, rolling, sandy.

Disappointing for sure.
Thinking of Bob, Rihc, Bill, George, Neil, Dr. Childs, & Tiger.

Man that's a bummer. Such a tranquil place and probably the best piece of property I can think of for a course in the Houston area.
Fare and be well now, let your life proceed by its own design.
