Great find, Joe! A very good read and awesome insight into what Tilly was thinking! However,understanding his bias against large, sprawling greens with many sections, it does bother me when I think that he would later be hired by the PGA to consult with clubs across the country. I can only imagine how many Short Holes he saw and recommended reducing the size of the green...
Anyway, here is a photo of Ridgewoo'd 5 East, one of the best par 4's anywhere. It is one of the largest greens on the course and really wild. My photos don't do it justice, but there are several distinct sections. Hit the wrong one, and a two putt is highly unlikely.
