Gary Payton was in fact The Glove.

I never heard that attributed to Michael.  Even though his defense was top notch, that's clearly not what he was known for...

Yep, Michael was only defensive player of the year in 87-88, 9 time first time All Defensive Team...

Michael was indeed called The Glove by some. It was during the original Dream Team tryouts and prep stuff. Bobby Hurley was playing very well for the B team, and someone said, better put The Glove on him. They weren't talking about Gary Payton.

Can't contribute anything worthwhile to the substantive discussion on this thread, but I can contribute to worthless minutiae with the best of them... :)

George,

Its all good, but the dream team was a long long time ago.  As a West Coast guy, there is only 1 Glove....not that MJ needs any other titles, he's got plenty enough!

P.S.  Gary was also defensive player of the year, with 9 Defensive first team selections.  But he's also the all time NBA steals leader, so he's got that going for him too.  ;)

Black Cat was one of his earliest nicknames.

There was also a recent air jordan model named that:

Seems like a fitting name for a course.  There are many other cat/ panther courses out there already.

Orange County National fittingly has both:
- Panther Lake
- Crooked Cat

As one who grew up in Chicago, I think GOAT National is the only name.

So they have the name Grove XXIII, but has anyone actually played it?  Took a stab with what I thought was a tall offer, but it was very sought after.  If you have been please give us the 411.

Curious how that worked out.
After seeing the brilliant use of bermuda, even common bermuda,in Australia not sure why zoysia would be considered..

A mere whisper of the word GOAT has an almost mythical effect on the golf glitterati hence The GOAT Club.

From October of last year:

I wonder what the size of the property is.  The routing is very tight along the edges, with seven greens (my best estimate) tight along the boundary.  I think I heard or read that the course is intended for match play, and this should make for some serious risk taking.  As we all know, Mr. Jordan is renowned for his relentless competitive spirit, so this should please him.

I have a friend who played there recently, a snowbird resident for the last ten or so years.  He liked it.
EDIT:  One of the articles says the golf course covers 226 acres.  That's big.

I played Grove XXIII in December.  It hadn't yet grown in and the clubhouse was not open.  I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised at how well the course came out.  I hadn't played a Bobby Weed course and didn't have high expectations but ended up really liking it.

It's notable for not being 'South Florida-esque.'  The course incorporates sandy areas between the holes (which I hope they maintain as it matures).  There aren't too many trees or too much water and it had some very good strategic options.  I also really liked many of the green complexes.  The 3rd hole, a long par 3, and the 16th hole incorporate a pre-existing drainage ditch very nicely (reminiscent of the original 7th at Hoylake).  I wish I had taken more pictures.  I think it would be a solid 7 on the Doak scale.
