Augusta & Pinehurst #2 -- Pine Straw Magazine, March Issue
« on: February 27, 2013, 07:28:19 AM »
Fun and interesting article (A Masterful Motivation) by Lee Pace, which includes Jones' decision to go with MacKenzie v. Ross.  And, how #2 got caught up in "The Augusta Syndrome", where Bill Coore quips, "...toughest week for any private club superintendent is the week in April immediately following The Masters."  Over-the-top manicuring vs. natural approach to design being the basis for C&C restoring #2 to be the "anti-Augusta."

Fascinating article
Thanks

Pinehurst seemed to have gone through what Palmetto did in the late 80's/early 90's with a little Augusta syndrome of its own.
Much of the "Augusta" look from the 88 renovation is gone at Palmetto, but some natural rustic features that evolved over time and were eliminated with the addition of fairway and rough irrigation are difficult to regain without a large budget and willingness to be shut down for a period of time
