Golf de St Germain photo tour all 18 holes

French golf has been a popular topic of late so it seems a good time to start some photo tours of Paris golf.
Today I will start with St Germain. The whole experience at the clubs was wonderful. The bunkering and green complexes had great character and although the course was extremely tight in areas there was no overwhelming feeling of too many trees.

I had a group of members with me and we player Chantilly, Fontainebleau, Golf National and Morfontaine while in Paris. They all had a blast on the courses and if you ever get the chance I would highly recommend it.

Thank you very much for posting the pictures of Golf de St. Germain.  IMHO, it is the hidden gem of the world and one of Harry Colt's best efforts.  Pictures totally do the actual piece of property justice, it's really flat except for the area near 17 and 18.  The genius of Colt was his ability to build up the bunkers and use them to create the appearance of movement out of land that didn't have any.  The tee shot on 10 is a great example of that look.  The greens and surrounds are really cool too and the course is presented very well.  I highly recommend playing St. Germain to anyone who gets to the Paris area, everyone at the club was incredibly hospitable (and even helped with some of my french pronunciations).

Really nice photos, Andrew.  Looking forward to seeing some of the other courses.  I really want to take a golf trip to France sometime, and I hope that my non-existent French doesn't stop me.  I've traveled a lot in France with no problems, so don't see why golf would be. 

It's a lovely course, though those trees at the 7th could stand to go.

Very well spotted !

Those trees were next on the hit list, but just last week, the decision went the wrong way. These things can take time and we hope to get the nod soon.

The club have actually removed many intrusive trees over the last 10 years. I'm sure they won't stop now.

We spent some time at lunch talking with Members and they suggested a fairly large storm a few years back knocked over a heap of trees that the Club wanted to remove but were having issues getting permission to take them out. I gather from discussions from discussions at other clubs it is a big hurdle at a lot of clubs to remove trees

The 7th would absolutely benefit by tree removal, It was one of the highlights of our time in Paris. ONe of my Members had a hole in one, a low marker lady member of 6 holed a hybrid.

Adam, you are spot on about Colt being able to make interesting greens out of pretty flat ground. Wonderful collection of manufactured green complexes

Great looking golf course..what is access like to play?
Similar to Engalnd or more privte?
Headed ro Paris in July and this looks like it is well worth a visit.

other than a French habit of taking a long time to repsond to e-mails they are most welcoming if there is time available

Interesting comments about the trees on #7. I was part of the "Hole in One" group so maybe i was distracted....but i never noticed those trees until AB posted these photos. As silly as they look in the pics i have no recollection of them interfering with play. That said....fire up the chainsaws.

I endorse the comments here & elsewhere...St Germain was a wonderful surprise and one of my most pleasaant days on a GC.

Brian, it will be good to hear your persperctive after playing it. I really think some of these pics are (beautiful but) deceiving. The course is built within as forest and there are lots of trees around. However, in general, they are rarely intruding on any reasonable playing corridor. The #3 tee shot is tight but that's appropriate for a tiny Par 4 (and Andrew's pic is taken from WAAAAAY back at the back of the tee box).

It looks to me that the entire course could do with a fair bit of tree removal. It looks very choked in places. Looking forward to playing it next June.

These holes would look even better with less trees. Only a couple of areas look really tight. But I live in the Pacific Northwest where tree lined courses are second nature.

Thanks for sharing the pics Andrew. It reminds of some courses in the sandbelt just not as firm.

Looks like a very enjoyable course with some great looking holes. Lots of unique looking greens and bunkers. What I also like is that the fariway bunkers are horizontal to the tee boxes and not vertical.

I'd love to see more of that 17th green.

That caught me completely off guard - which I love.
I've been entertaining a France, Belgium and Netherlands trip and this may have sealed the decision.

If you can share more about the greens, I would appreciate the additional insight.

As aside, the french culture in Canada are also very slow to remove trees too.
Not sure if that's relevent or not.
