Seeing the great thread with Pine Valley in the 30s and now, I thought it might be interesting to see it in the middle of that period, in 1962.

Being the second show filmed, they really pulled out the stops with a bunch of great overhead helicopter shots.

It's funny how hard it was to id some of the holes from the different angles and with the difference in the bunkering.... 17 really had me

great pictures!
Golf construction & maintenance are like creating a masterpiece; Da Vinci didn't paint the Mona Lisa's eyes first..... You start with the backdrop, layer on the detail and fine tune the finished product into a masterpiece

Andy,

Thanks for the photos circa 1962.

I first played the course shortly thereafter when there was far more in the way of sand/extensive bunkering and far less in trees and underbrush.

Pine Valley is truly unique.

Unfortunately, it went through a period where it suffered from benign neglect.

I think part of that is a by-product of the form of governance, which I happen to favor.
Benign neglect, more than any intentional changes, diminished the grandeur of the course.

One must never forget that eternal vigilance is the price o greatness

All those pictures were taken from the intro. I have a bunch more from during the match. They're good, but they're from ground or crane height, not the flyover perspective. But, they're more close up pictures of about 8 holes, and I know which holes they are! Should I post those, too?

Patrick,

Did you ever get the DVD I sent you to play? I've never had that issue, and I can't really imagine what the problem was. These pictures only tell half the story. There's footage of notable people at the club, and a bunch more I'm sure you'd enjoy.
