I'm guessing this another of John's attempts to point out the flaws in the rating process.  Its all subjective.

Or perhaps it's a subliminal attempt to get us to listen to old R.E.M.  At least in my case, it's actually working.

A driver and a 6/7/8 iron are perfect for me. I am probably longer than average but not pro long, so these holes are in most cases going to be the longer par fours (440+ yards) and the shortest fives.

I'd almost rather have that than a sand wedge sometimes. With the wedges I almost feel more pressure to hit it close and I tend to have more distance control problems.

Barney, a brilliant premise which I totally agree with.  I read long ago that a 150 yards approach shot separates the men from the boys and I believe that holds true today notwithstanding increases in distance.  235 + 140 for me.
