Stephen,
These guys were a hoot! Carts with sliding glass doors that were air tight for winter play and massive propane heaters with even more massive propane tanks. Fortunately it was summer.

I need to remember to never bump their carts. It is sad when your golf cart is probably more weather proof than your car.

As promised here are a few of my favorite holes at Astoria Golf & Country Club.

3rd hole – 373 yd par 4

5th hole – 423 yd par 4

8th hole – 364 yd – drive from the highest point on the course. Fairly large elevation change and semi blind landing area. I came up 10 yds short and felt like a big hitter for once, till I walked off with a par.  Tricky back to front sloping two level green.

9th hole – 499 yds par 5 dogleg left over water

14th hole – 438 yds par 4

16th hole -  342 yds par 4

As mentioned to me the course routing should be switched so that you play the back 9 first. The last few holes are just excellent and serve as a great finish IMO.

It looks like you didn't find the back tee on this one.

Hole 3 416 yards par 4 - a plays down a very narrow valley between the high dunes on either side to a very small green.

GJ,

Clever, however actually there were 3 buggies I couldn't get out of the photo. I was playing with 3 members and each of them had a buggy. Probably for economical reasons I'm guessing. So in most of the photos I took and I don't need to point out the obvious, that I'm rubbish when it comes to taking photos, I tried to walk up in front of everything after we teed off and quickly take a photo where possible.

Incidentally on that hole I also though the forward tee presented a far more difficult shot, although I didn't play it. The angle seemed much trickier than a straight on shot that was only about 10-15 yds longer.

My ball turns right to left, so I think the dune top tee is easier.
