Jim,

Isn't that more likely to be an Emmet design if at both GCGC and Congressional?

While not nearly as pronounced, St. George's 8th also has two mounds on the green, more pimples than a ring of ridges, but still, it seems more in Emmet's character to do something so unconventional.

Now if there photos of Ekwanok....

Jim Kennedy,

What a great find.

It would seem as if there are different forms of templates

Thanks

David,
I edited my post, it was the 16th at Columbia, not Congressional.  :-[
It's been quite a few years since I played Ekwanok, or even Equinox, but I don't remember anything like that at either course.

Pat,
No doubt.

Could H.H. Barker, golf professional at GCGC, have done both the GCGC 12th and Columbia CC 16th?

Ed,

I don't think so as far as GCGC goes.

Jim,

I played Columbia and don't recall any feature resembling internal mounds, were they removed at the date you previously cited ?

Pat,
As Craig Disher posted on another thread:

"The present green is approximately in the same position but I think the tee was moved to the right. The green in the photos was gone before the US Open in 1921 and as far as I know it is the original; it was replaced by an table top green - perhaps the stream flooded too often - which too was replaced at some point. You're right - the 15th fairway is in the background and the railroad tracks are visible just beyond."
Same green from a slightly different angle.

The greyish/silverish mound you see in RMD's post will be one of several convex bunkers which are common at Garden City.

John Mayhugh now has the photos and will be posting them shortly.

It's going to be a vast improvement over the prior hole.
