Music's biggest cult band rolled into St. Louis (awesome show ;D) and got me to thinking---on the heels of the wonderful Mitt Romney golf thread--do any of the band play golf. At least one- guitarist Alex Lifeson. Pretty good swing and some good thoughts on golf as a tonic to the road. Check it out--the first bit of this youtube video.

I heard a member of ZZ Top was out on the range. I drove out and not a beard to be found. It was the drummer. Zzzzzzzzzz

I played with Alex Lifeson 14 years ago.  What a great guy.  He said he tries to play every day when touring.  I know Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts loves to play as does Jake Owen, Vince Gil and Darius Rucker.  And don't forget Justin Timberlake...he's bringing sexy back.

Did you ask him if his favorite songs are "Lessons" and "The Trees"?  Since he into course design, we know he hates "Subdivisions".  I'm sure Jake Trout has been begging to sit in on "Closer to the Pin".

I think Alex owns (maybe co-owns) a golf course somewhere in Ontario. I know he's the most avid of the three, for sure. Geddy Lee is more of tennis guy, from a playing standpoint. He's also one of the biggest baseball nuts on the planet. Occasionally if you watch a Blue Jays game in Toronto, he often sits behind home plate. Neil Peart doesn't seem interest much in sports at all, which I guess kind of makes perfect sense if you know much about the man.

Unbelievably huge band. The influence on so many musicians like myself who are now in our 30s and 40s cannot be measured.

And I'll say this.... the current record is as good as any they've put out in a long time.

American-Australian. Trackman Course Guy. Fatalistic sports fan. Drummer. Bass player. Father. Cat lover.

Alex was a co-owner of Coppinwood, a Fazio course, near Toronto.  Here's an article by our own Robert Thompson from 2006 that describes his golfing background.  Coppinwood subsequently fell on some hard financial times and was bought out by some of the members.  Don't know if Alex was one of them.  The club is apparently doing better now.

Neil Peart must enjoy cycling, I guess.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Maybe I'm the last to have seen this -- but maybe not.

Laughed out loud at this commercial -- a very rare occasion:

The drummer may not have a beard but he is a Beard.. Frank Beard that is.

That Rush is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame shows what a sham that place is!

Craig,

Its cause they play that lowly prog rock crap.....which the only other band in that genre thats in being Pink Floyd.

Lose the hippie/musical stuff and maybe they're in too!!   ;D

P.S.  I couldn't agree more, its unbelievable that a group like RUSH is not in...they are a top shelf act!

I played a fun round yesterday afternoon with GCAers at White Bear Yacht Club.

After golf I hustled to the Rush show in downtown Minneapolis.  I'm pretty sure I was the only guy there wearing an Augusta National pullover.

Spectacular golf course + amazing concert = GREAT DAY

Couldn't agree more...my favorite record since Hemispheres. It's really excellent. They play most of it live to start their second set...with an 8 piece string section! They could/should just play the whole thing in order.

I saw them last week in Columbus; Alex has played at my friend's club there before when in town, but must have taken his talents elsewhere this time through.

I saw them the second night of the tour on September 9.  I wondered about writing the band to try to set up a game....

I echo comments about Clockwork Angels.  Seriously solid.

Good to know, and not surprising, that there are fellow Rush fans on GCA.

At one time he was a big Scotty Cameron collector.
