Barnbougle Dunes or not? What you do? Taking requests....
« on: September 24, 2012, 04:55:56 AM »
I have organised a trip down to Barnbougle for 8 on Vortex(fly in/ fly out) for a few months now...over the weekend I have been advised I have a slight bulging disc in my lower back,  :'( I have known for the last 8 days, due to high pain levels and back spasms, that there was a problem, but hoped/thought it would be better by now. Drugs have now provided for a reasonable management of pain levels!

Trip cost, paid in full $1,200 - 3 days 2 nights, plus F&B. Door to door 1 hr 40mins.

Should I go? I must be the local airfield at 7.45am - 13 hours away.

If I go, it would be beyond foolish to actually play golf, so this means I am down there at without doubt one of my most favourite tracks( played it many, many times), unable to play, (I will probably take a putter!) - so close and yet so far - what would your do? A slight rotation glitch could easily exacerbate the problem.

Should I not go? If i stay home and back gets worse, I will then be close to help I can trust?

If I go, I can take requests from the DG, what would you specifically like to know, I can perhaps find this info?

Could you intentionally take yourself to a great golf course knowing you couldn't play?

What would you do?

Brett,

Which disc is it?

Are you staying at Barnbougle or Lost Farm?

Ask not what GolfClubAtlas can do for you; ask what you can do for GolfClubAtlas.

A bulging disc is a reasonably minor pathology, even if it doesn't feel like it, but you gain nothing from playing.

No golf, no forward flexion and no spinal rotation for the next 6-8 weeks.

Brett, you are stronger man than me if you can go to Barny and not play.

You are also brave to take on a flight in a twin prop washing machine, I hope the back is up to any rough stuff.
Never argue with an idiot. They will simply bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Have decided to go, if anyone has any requests let me know.

Reading material ( I always take more than I need): Robert Hunter's "The Links", CBM's "Scotland's Gift", Design Museum's "How to Design a House" and my iPad.

Brett, if it were me, I'd split my day between sitting on the top of the dune right of 4 fairway and behind 13 watching people play them.

Great idea Scott, also like approaches into 9 green and obviously 7 is fun to, although doesn't look like there is a lot of golfers here. Weather beautiful as usual, nice bit of breeze, mostly blue skies.

Brett

I had that condition just before Christmas nearly 4 years ago (I think).  Didn't play in the annual Boxing Day bash, but did drive for 80 minutes to and from and went around in a cart.  Then went to dinner that evening with the guys.

MY BACK GOT WORSE.  L$ or L5, can't remember which.  I was literally in tears trying to stand up, nearly passing out and it would take me 20 minutes to get out of bed, deciding which way to roll out or submarine out to get the least pain.  Used a putter upside down as a walking stick to move from one room to another at home.

So, be careful.  Take rest and don't overdo anything.  Mark Ferguson's advice is on the money!  Especially the time frame.  If you want some good news, you probably want hurt anything by walking around and travelling apart from the unbelievable pain you might endure.

Enjoy!

Thanks James and everyone - am at BD today, have cancelled all golf for at least 6 weeks, a very sad and strange period it will be. Off to enjoy some the local fare.

You also need to do this stretch every day for several weeks, as soon as you are able.  Not the arm position behind the shoulder, just the leg position, and don't bend forward for a month.  You probably won't be able to sit with both with both glutes flat on the ground, but you should try, as long as you don't strain.

Good luck Brett.

I need to come down and see the creek course in a the next 3 weeks, will give you a call and hopefully catch up for something other than golf.
Ask not what GolfClubAtlas can do for you; ask what you can do for GolfClubAtlas.

Good luck with the back Brett.

I had the same thing earlier in the year...   :(
Lots of Voltaren 50 tablets (with food) over the next few days for you.
Take care of the back - there will be plenty more visits to Barny.

Dave - i look forward to that, send me a pm to organise. FYI.

13th Beach Golf Links this week announced a change of name of the Creek course, with no possible chance of a creek being re-instated, so the new name was officially announced this morning: "The North Course" will now accompany "The Beach Course" as the two tracks of which Thirteenth Beach Golf Links is well known for. The 36 holes belong to 13th Beach, the names of the courses are less important but must still be relevant, and the Creek was no longer so.

Fergus! There IS NO WAY I can do that stretch, trouble crossing my legs, let alone trying to get my knees to the floor!!
