Kris- Very generous invitation as usual from the Shreiner Brother's. Some sort of manifesto may be in order as "well behaved" is open to interpretation.  ;D

Just returned from the New Jersey Turf Show held at the Taj (no Trump bashing please) and had some nice chats with several of the very talented Merion assistants working with Matt. They are quite pleased with where the East course is preparation and condition-wise heading into the Winter. Obviously the hope is for a milder one, without ice.

As to comments about it being tricked up, I don't think there is anything to get too concerned about on that score. If it's dry, I'm sure it will be a bit on the edge...so what? These are the best guys in the world out there, a little mission "almost" impossible is standard for this event. Strap it on men and leave the pacifiers in the locker-room!

The LuLu romp for a possible GCA U.S. Open kick-off is a great call! I'd be happy to help put that together if we could get a solid head count of commits in the short. Remember, there will be a lot of pressure early that week on area courses, so we need to get that locked up soon if we wish to do it. I have to play early in the week, on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, as I'm buried with hosting the remaider of it. I'm game, either early or late in the day, to avoid the heat and slug play. Let's beat the drum, get a count, and book'm Dano for LuLu!

If anyone wants to play at Concord CC I can arrange a Tuesday outing Open week.. We are loctaed about 40 minutes due south of downtown Philly and about a half hour from Merion. Its a William Flynn course with 4 holes done by Cornish due to road expansion.

I am sure we can accomodate up to 20 guys easily. We are at the intersection of Routes 202 and 1. we can also do whatever food/ beer/ adult beverages that are needed. I am certain the greens fees will be most reasonable.

So the offer is out there.

Sounds wonderful Ed! I'm game. Perhaps a Concord-LuLu Double, but maybe not both on the same day. Just to give Concord C.C. a solid plug, Superintendent Greg D' Antonio, and the membership supporting him there, are really doing some nice tweaking to take things to even higher presentation level there.

Thanks Kris, we are trying and Greg has been a great addition to our staff. been there 25 years and the place has never looked as good as it does now. Now if I can just convince him to mow those " native grasses".

Splurged and bought two tickets for all four days and an extra for Saturday, while my son is a given, even my wife and daughter want to go at least one day.

Been told that we can hang at my friends house Sunday afternoon, he lives VERY near the second green and has been a member since our old center city squash days in the late 80s. That'll be a celebration !!

Wondering if the train from another stop is the way to get there.   This strategy worked great at Baltusrol for the PGA, and for Winged Foot and Shinnecock Opens.

By the way, the Walker Cup at Merion with no ropes was an tremendous golf viewing experience.  I have been telling the story of Ricky Fowler tapping me on the shoulder in the 14th fairway, "excuse me sir, I need to play a shot".

Planning to find a way to attend the next one at NGLA in the fall.  Will try to find a contact from my network earlier in the year for a preview round.
