I won't answer in specific, but I think the key to a great long par 4 is that the challenge should come mainly from the length and not other factors, i.e. hazards, O.B., absurd sloping, etc. If I had one gripe with the Ocean Course at Kiawah it would be that some of their long par 4's are also squeezed very tightly by hazards (#10 comes to mind if I'm recalling the numbers correctly). A good long par 4 can have hazards or OB, but shouldn't make the bailout overly penal. There is nothing worse than a 480 yard par 4 with no room to miss.
