Grew up at Deal GCC in New Jersey.
The halfway house was a stop for quick bite (orders called in on #8 tee)
As a caddy, the members bought hot dogs and a drink for you.
A cool little building with great shakes, hot dogs and burgers.  Members would drive in past #3 tee
for lunch quite often.

Not sure it's still as good, but like many memories of youth, it was awesome

Sunningdale - location between 10 & 11 on the old is far more impressive than those shrively little weiners.
Wentworth is just as strong, but the cookies & butter tarts are better than those sausages.
Rosedale - excellent breakfast sandwiches.
Tryall - Rum cocktails (better if you tee off after 11)

Pat I was at Deal last year and I can assure you the hut is still a fine place to stop.

Maidstone is a cool spot and very unassuming in terms of the building itself.  No real signature snack but just a great place to stop and realise where you are in the world.

The beef jerky reported to be made by a few of the caddies, supported by the members as a business venture, is awesome at Bayonne.  They have the same stuff at Calusa Pines and make the same claims.  I imagine it is possible the caddies in question work both venues seasonally.

Trump's half way stop at Bedminster is hard to beat for the quality of food but it is not really a house in its own right.  Big outdoor grill at the back of the clubhouse.  Similarly at Old Collier in Naples.  Amazing crispy chicken wraps and adult smoothies.

I like the turn at Champions which also takes the crown for locker room atmosphere in my book.

Sunningdale is the classic spot for me though.  Banter, food, tradition, location.  It's got it all.

2011 highlights- Royal Aberdeen, Loch Lomond, Moray Old, NGLA (always a pleasure), Muirfield Village, Saucon Valley, watching the new holes coming along at The Renaissance Club.

Pat, I can assure you it's every bit as good now as it was then. It's great to see some of the local doctors, lawyers and businessfolk in suits having a hot dog. Not much has changed. I second your vote for it being a great halfway house.

The open-air halfway house at Clear Creek Tahoe is called 'Swift's Station.'  On a hilltop overlooking the 2nd hole, 9th green and 10th tee, it wasn't yet operational during our visit, but looked like a place one could relax for hours.

Is Clear Creek open again? It was my understanding it had been closed for a period of time?

These pics were from my visit in 2010.  I have no inside knowledge of the current situation, but someone recently posted pics and the course is being maintained and looked to be in very good condition.

David - Ken in the hut at Deal, Kent would be very jealous of the facilities at the "hut" in Deal, NJ!

How are the bottom holes 4 & 5 (?) recovering now after last year's wash out?

The greens aren't bad considering they were completely reseeded and if you didn't know there had been a 12' pile of water on the two greens, you'd say they weren't much different than the others. I think it'll take another year to get them fully back though. There's talk of raising the two greens up though to help alleviate the flooding concerns.

Rock Creek has a nice half way house...not exactly in the shade, but well stocked with food and beverage.

All my favorites (Stone Eagle, Olympic Club, Sand Hills) have been mentioned.  I believe they had to shut down the Den at Ten, unfortunately.  But we can still go to El Gallito afterwards, the best Mexican food ever.

Victoria Golf Club has a nice one, but it was about 90 degrees inside during my one visit.

speaking of temperatures John, can anyone enlighten me as to the climate and weather at Clear Creek to allow an open air halfway house, seems a bit breezy and chilly to me - esp in the mountains??

Dusty,
I thought the construction of this house blended very well with the surrounds, can't remind the sustenance...

There is a HUGE fireplace in there!

I'm not familiar with the climate, but I do know that Clear Creek is on the east side (desert side) of the mountains surrounding the Tahoe basin and at a bit lower elevation (the lake is at 6200, and CCT is approx 5600).   My guess would be a little bit longer season than the courses at higher elevations, with very pleasant summer temps.

Great to hear. From what I hear from those who have visited, it's a fantastic track and well worth the trek over from Tahoe.

the Bridge's is kinda cool too, was told to "empty it out" the last time I was there (last day of the season).
Friar's Head moved a building up by sound avenue that served as the pro shop when they first opened and
converted it into a half-way house between the 10th green and 11th tee.  The bathrooms are over the top!

Not really a halfway house, but I'll throw in a vote for the shack at Caledonia with free fish chowder.

My favorites (no pics, sorry):

Maidstone
Sunningdale
Kawana

And for nostalgia's sake...St. David's Golf Club

To paraphrase/butcher Francis Ouimet, the Hot Dogs were more delicious and the Coca-Cola sweeter there than anywhere else in the world.  Or at least that's how I remember them from my caddying days  ;D

Kirtland CC -- best selection of free snacks I've ever come across (chex mix, trail mix, dried fruit, chips, 'nilla wafers) and then there's the view...
