The most ridiculously over the top halfway house I've come across is at Rich Harvest.  It must be about 10000 sq ft, full bar, no bartender, help yourself to whatever you want.  If memory serves, you don't even have to write down what you consume.  It looks like a five star restaurant inside but weird because it's empty.

If someone has a picture, please post.  Thanks.

Over the years, I have come to conclude that I do not like halfway houses. By that, I mean true halfway houses that you hit after 9 holes. The reason is that they set the table for too much confusion/discourteous behavior at the 10th tee - groups trying to leapfrog other groups, people hopping on right in front of a group that stops for a few seconds after 9,  etc.

For this reason, the only good kind of halfway house is one that is not between nines.

I have been meaning to tell you about this one for a couple of weeks. The "halfway" house at Sagebrush is off the 13th tee box and is the coolest one I have seen. In addition Shiv, the course is among the funnest I have ever played. It ranks up there with the best and is in my top 5 most fun. Anyway, this particular "halfway" house has a flat screen TV with big leather chairs in front and a table for eating as well. Two big grills and a chef there to make you whatever you want. I highly recommend the pulled pork. We came back for dinner later. But the coolest part was the pond next to the "halfway" house had a pier with 6 fly rods waiting to be used. So you fish while you wait. If you are lucky and catch a fish, one of the two bald eagles waiting on top of the trees across the pond will swoop down and take your fish.

You need to visit this place. Fantastic.

I will second this, big-time. What an amazing place. Goes with an amazing golf course.

Pine Needles which is kind of a little country store and with the change in the hole order comes after 8 instead of 9.The Carnoustie of America as halfway houses go.

Sunningdale's was pretty cool, and delicious sausages! The three members I played with said that it is tradition to stop off, have a drink and a sausage. So, that's what we did!

No halfway house comes close to Sunningdale's! Legend hath it that Darren Clarke once ate 9 of those giant, pork sausages before driving the 11th green on the 'Old'.............now, if it were 9 pints he drank...................

MPCC Shore is top notch. MPCC dunes is fit for dinner, Mountain Lake is wonderful, PB is for the birds. Hard to beat Pac Dunes and OLd Mac locations.

My personal halfway house rating scale is based upon it's food specialty.  My former club's halfway house (located on the 11th tee) was know for it's fresh baked pies and breads.  I always could tell how my round was going by how early in it I thought about what kind of pie I would having.

1. Bro Hof Slot - home to the Nordea Masters, by far the best in my book. Order at 9, eat at 11. Fresh seafood and sushi/sashimi to order among many other things. Sit out on a terrace with a view of the Castle up on the hill (Bro Hof Slot (slot meaning castle) and the lake in front of you.

2. MPCC as already shown. Brilliant and you want to stay.

3. Shoreacres, but I have to say what I found amazing about it was that we were there on a perfect weather day, the only golfers on the course and yet the halfway house was open and manned. Brilliant yet a bit ridiculous IMO at the same time.

When did "favorite" exchange itself for "best" in the dictionary? Always interesting how a "favorite" thread morphs into an arm-wrestling "best" thread.

Jason, I agree. Sand Hills fits both of my descriptions for favorite and best.

In addition, Nassau CC is very good. It is called Calamity Jane House (or something close) it has a relica of the original putter that Bobby Jones received at Nassau, and has some great historical photos. The guy that works it is a retired New York City Firefighter with great stories and a good memory for what you like to drink!

The Honors Course.  Dice, drinks and anything you need to refresh after #7 or #13. (same house).

For my nostalgia - The Augusta Country Club.  Every year, I leave the Masters and head to ACC for drinks; then hop on a cart to head out to #8 and get a chillidog.  So many Summer days spent eating those, I have to get a sliver of it while there.

Most unique food - Olympic Club.  How can you not remember those cheesburgers on hotdog buns.

Flossmoor

PV is a great building but not somewhere to linger and banter.

Mark,

That's because they don't want you to linger and banter, they want you to get the hell out and continue your round ASAP

Sven,

What about after 14 at Sleepy Hollow, or is the walk too difficult ? ;D

Old Oaks has a great halfway house and setting, probably ahead of it's time.

Bayonne's is about as hidden as you can get.

But, my favorite is at Garden City Golf Club.

Garden City...that's funny!

Pat - that's why it's not a very good halfway hut. A hut should involve an 8-10 minute stop to compare scores with the group ahead and behind, take in some refreshment and find out what's happening in the world from the staff.

Brian - I've seen Dominos deliver pizza to the hut and if you phone for a taxi "from the hut at the golf club" they know where to come and pick you up from. Very useful for poor weather and wins in the "country". Seasoned pros double hut on 9 & 12. Number One is pleased to be supplier to the hut of Grandad's Recipe award winning pork and sage sausages for members dogs!
