Given that college golf has become a series of medal play tournaments, I guess a home course isn't important as long as there is a decent practice facility. In my couple of years of golf at UCSB, we only played a couple of medal play tournaments (conference championship 36 holes) and NCAA regional (18 holes). Most of the season was head-to-head match play against another school, home and home. Where you played your home matches, LaCumbre for us, was important, it was half your season. UCLA and USC were lucky, Bel Air and LA North respectively.
While it was a lot more fun 50 years ago, today's college golf is preparation for the PGA Tour.
Go Bears tomorrow!
