Possible Missing Links: Oakland Beach Golf Club, Warwick, RI
« on: September 12, 2012, 12:25:22 PM »
I stumbled across a notation of the Oakland Beach Golf Club in Rhode Island in the Harpers Guide of 1900.  Oakland Beach is a section of Warwick, and if you do a Google Map search there is a portion of land near Steven O'Connor Blvd (map url copied below) that looks like a grassed area that could be a couple of old golf holes.

Is anyone from RI familiar with the area, or familiar with a course that may have existed in the area?

A quick search of my archives and the typical online sites I have access to has turned up nothing on "Oakland Beach Golf Club".

Nothing in that neighborhood as of 1939.

Sounds like the golf course was at the hotel. It burned in 1903, but not completely, and was rebuilt.

...and here's a website/w drawings and postcards of the general area and the hotel, which was located at the water's edge on the OB peninsula.
