I think it's a very reasonable comparison.
i enjoyed both and when I played Erin Hills was defintely reminded of Shinnecock, and now that you mention lawsonia is a bit like NGLA

OK Sven, I think I've got it...

I'll offer two in the same geographical area, and with the same sort of difference as either Yeaman's Hall or Country Club of Charleston as the land form engineered course side of the equation, and Kiawah or Bulls Bay as the contrasting one, with Kiawah more natural than the totally engineered (but in a different way)- BB, but still a completely different sort of contrast.  
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.
