1991 Shells Wonderful World of Glof

Just watching Sergio v Mickleson. Gary Player commentating after Sergio hit 2 iron into green - "the players on all tours love firm greens.....overwatering is the destruction of all golf courses".

Since the economy went bad and courses starting closing/looking for ways to cut budgets this has been a topic of conversation.....seems like Gary got it a long time ago. Any thoughts?

01?

Really amazing they got an 11 year-old Sergio for this. ;)

I suspect 01 is correct.

2001 and it was here in Cabo at Querencia. Young Sergio (though older than 11) was playing with a severe overhang and left a bit of the prior evening's intake alongside the 11th green.

I wonder if all tour pros these days do enjoy firm greens as it serves to widen the gap among the haves and have nots.

I think great ball-strikers (Garcia) and high spin players (Mickelson) have to love firmer greens. That's why a Luke Donald is never going to win a U.S. Open unless the course is shorter and there's lots of rain.
