I recently played Highlands (NC) CC, a Ross designed opened in 1928.  I can't imagine that he built a much tougher walk than that.  It's a brilliant routing and was, of course, designed as a walking course.  But it's high in the mountains, and there's no denying that.

Michael,

I will second the post by Tom Ferrell and will add Roaring Gap to that list of Ross courses that are pretty tough on the legs.

Perry Maxwell--Southern Hills (in August).

I think Southern Hills is a pretty easy walk.  The walk up to the 10th tee from the 9th green is the only strenuous one I can think of and most of the tees are very close to the preceding greens.
