which begs the question:  if you had to play the same course the rest of your life which would it be?

The course I played this morning- Chicago Golf Club-each time I return I see it as even better and the solitude of being one of only 3 or 4 groups out during the day gives it a very special sense. Some of the best greens I've encountered.

Wouldn't it be a course on which your game could age well? One on which you could move from tips to middies to forwards and not ... wait for it ... miss a shot?

I think that the course needs to fit your sensibility~it has to have an ambience, in addition to the shots, and it has to favor the element of your game that most defines you.

For me, I love to hit the tee shot, wish I hit my approaches better than I do and enjoy greenside recoveries. Putting comes and goes for me.

A Kebo Valley, a Taconic, a Leatherstocking (old school northeastern courses, of the ones I've played) or a Myopia or Merion West (similar ilk, yet ones I have not played) would be my courses of choice.

HOWEVER, pulling from Tim Gavrich's thread of recent days, I could go for a Krewe Island setting along the South Carolina-North Georgia coastline. Fresh seafood every day...mmmmmmm.

The Golf Club in New Albany, Ohio wins...

BUT, if in this dream scenario publics could be made private and/or greens fees were eliminated...Pinehurst #2 might get the nod.

Though neither is the greatest course I have played, I would probably pick The Prairie Club (Dunes) or maybe Wine Valley because of their elasticity.

If I have to play the same course everyday, why not make it a course that can play 100 different ways.

Augusta National.

I'd be the only guy stuck playing just one course forever that still makes most other golfers in the US jealous.

Among courses I've played though, it's between Pebble Beach (enjoyability, fun, and challenge) and Prairie Club Dunes (unbelievable variation).

Mountain Lake would be nice, I should say Olympic lake but it is too hard for an old man to enjoy when the game slides too unknown lows. That is my way of saying a good Raynor is a great life long course. MPCC Shore plays fast and firm and is a great rest of your life course.

I was going to say so, but isn't it compulsory caddie use, regardless of the time of day?

Personally, I'd love to stroll around the four hole loop from 15-18 at sunset, by myself, every now and then.

Based soley on the courses I've played, I would have to go with Newport CC. It's not my favorite course (although it's close), but there's never anyone there, especially in the spring and fall. A great course in a great setting with no wait to tee off takes the cake in my book

I'll take Ronald's criteria into account and assume my energy will wane as I age- so my course will be the first 13 holes at Bandon Trails- I'll get on the cart after 13 green and they can drive me to the clubhouse.....

Deal hands down, if you've only one place to play you've got to feel very comfortable on and off the course. Trophy courses are fine but if you don't fit in it would be a miserable experience.
