The real story of Indianwood's 18th?

I'm intrigued that the latest issue of Global Golf Post devotes a double-pager to Indianwood's giant 18th green (http://digital.globalgolfpost.com/globalgolfpost/20120716#pg28) yet makes no mention of that sandy madness to the right of its fairway.

And to think I thought the 18th at Castle Pines was overdoing it...

Were the 31 bunkers at Indianwood on the original course or were they added when Wilfrid Reid revamped it?

The mass of bunkers on the 18th was added by the course owner, who is also a golf contractor.  Forget the year.

I'm also curious as to the back story on the 94 Women's Open at Indianwood. The article linked above said it was a last-minute replacement after previously hosting the tournament just 5 years earlier.

Does anyone recall what the original venue was and why it fell through?
