As those of you who attended the 5th Major know, Chris Johnston has set up some discount golf on the closing weekend of Dismal River for the 2012 season.  After some discussion with the powers that be, I've been elected to head up a formal tournament on October 5th and 6th (Friday and Saturday) of 2012.

Here are the details:

GOLF:
The tournament will be two days of Ryder Cup-style team matches.  The competition with pit an "East" team against a "West" team.  We will play 36 holes on Friday, with foursomes matches in the morning and four ball matches in the afternoon.  We will play 18 holes on Saturday (probably mid-morning start) of singles matches.  Trophy is to be decided.  This format will leave plenty of time for extra golf/exploring the Doak Course on Thursday, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday.  There will also be plenty of time for the evening shenanigans that Dismal River is famous for.

FOOD:
The usual fare (which ain't bad at DR), but hopefully with the added intrigue of a clambake on Friday night.  That's right, folks, a clambake in Nebraska.  It's not set in stone yet, but I have faith that Dismal team can get it done!

LODGING and COST:
The cost of the tournament and lodging is $600.  Moreover, any participant in this year's 5th Major who brings out three guests will be able to play and stay for the tournament FREE OF CHARGE.  As people sign up for the tournament, we will be happy to pair up newcomers with 5th Major participants so that everyone gets the best possible deal.  Golf is available both before and after the tournament ($85 for a Thursday practice round and $125 for golf on Sunday).  SIDE NOTE:  the Signature Cabins are on a first-come, first-serve basis for the 5th Major gents, and there are only three left!

Folks, ANY AND ALL ARE INVITED to this tournament.  If you have an interest in playing, respond on this thread or shoot me a PM.  I'd like to get a pretty definitive count about a month prior to the tournament, so we can set up teams, pairings and tee times.

I'm pretty sure we can make this into a great tourney!  Again, feel free to contact me with any questions.

Did anyone tell CJ that it's Nebraska/Ohio State weekend?

You're in for the tournament, and you're in for a Signature Cabin.

Only two SCs left on the board!

Too bad it's not in Lincoln.  We could caravan over for the tailgate on Saturday evening.

Game will be on in the theater room.  Loud and proud!

Will be searching for clams in the Dismal today.

Look forward to having some GCAers and friends out again.  Last time was a hoot!

I can't win. WVU @ Texas on Oct. 6th and I'm committed. Should be another memorable event. Rats!

Have fun,

Me + 2, JNC. Don't hold a signature for us though as we're planning to drive out and will need to get a bit more sleep this time around!

Sounds great.  Too early for me to commit, but I'm going to do my best to finally make it up for one of these events.  Sounds like too much fun to keep missing out on.

Need another TV?  It's also Miami-Notre Dame at the same exact time.

Wish I could do this, but the lady turns 40 that weekend. I'm pretty sure that if I bailed on that for golf, my stuff would be on the driveway when I got back.

Howard, there are three large flat screens in the theater room (tho one wonders why in God's name anyone would want to watch TSISB when there are two real teams on television).

In the spirit of the recent Dormie thread, you're missing an opportunity to start a "Mullen, Nebraska - Looking for birthday ideas for my wife" thread.

Count me in for the Second Annual, please. It sounds great.

This year's coincides with my daughter's final collegiate conference tournament. Wouldn't miss that for anything.

Calls to mind a new take on an old joke:  What do you get when you cross your wife with Mullen, Nebraska?  Nothing - there are some places a wife just won't touch.

Okay, nine guys are "in" so far.  If college football is the issue, I can assure we've got that covered. ;D  Also, nobody will be reported for watching football on the course.  ;)

Okay, I have to bump this back up to the top again, and potentially get a little more aggressive here.  This promises to be a great event folks.  If you have even the slightest interest, shoot me a message and we'll figure things out.

I'm very interested, though I can't commit just yet. I'll firm things up and let you know in a month or so.

Given the very spotty cell reception out there, how are they going to do that?  Install a dish on the carts? 8)

Sounds good Dan.  I think there will be a little(well maybe NOT so little) Hillbille posse down Austin way that weekend. I do know this...my local down there says it is THEE game the Longhorn fans have circled for this year! Hope our team is up to the task.

We'll firm something up in the way of a get-together a bit closer in!

Cheers,

If you're undecided due to spousal concerns -  Laura and I attended the Fifth Major in 2011, and Laura loved every minute of the Dismal River experience.   DR is very playable for the gals (Laura's about an 18 GHIN index).

In other words, bring them along!

If anyone wants to head out closing weekend there's room for one more in the car from Denver on Saturday morning, October 6. Returning in the afternoon on Monday, October 8.
