Design around Wetlands
« on: July 11, 2012, 10:41:08 AM »
I've read many mentions over the years of environmental regulations making design difficult on properties with a lot of wetlands, but I'm not sure if I've ever really understood the restrictions. I realize that most natural wetlands must be a certain distance from greens and possibly from fertilizers altogether, but I don't really know any more than that.

I'm looking for specifics here:

  • What are typical wetland restrictions? Do they vary by state or are they fairly consistent?
  • What types of wetlands are impacted? Natural? Flowing? Anything that holds water?
  • Specifically, how far from greens/fertilized areas must the wetland remain?
  • What are some tactics for working around the restrictions to create quality holes?

Some of y'all have never been called out in bold green font and it really shows.

Jason,

Here is a link you should look at:

This is the new Environmental Best Management Practices for Virginias Golf Courses.  Very comprehensive.  My firm authored Chapter 2.
