In remembrance of the 4th I've been offering a free Gatorade to anyone coming into the golf shop that can pass (14 correct answers out of 20 questions) a citizens test .

So far (2 1/2 hours - about 15 'players'- all ages)  I've only given away 1.   :(

p.s. Thought I was perfect, but missed 1 answer   ;) ;D

Thanks for sharing, Jim.

Thanks for posting this.  It was fun.  Having just finished a Washington biography helped.

Nice idea Jim.

I am always impressed by the way you bring your constitution and role of government into political discussion.  It shows a type of education and interest in the political system that I only see in Federal nations.

I like to think I pretty well informed on the American way of life and culture (I’ve spent over 4 months ‘over there’) but I scored very poorly.

Here’s the British one
http://www.ukcitizenshiptest.co.uk/

I managed 50% on it and thus failed.  I wasn’t born in the UK but have lived here since starting education.  Thankfully at present there are no plans to make me sit it officially.

But this article suggests it’s not so impressive...in many ways.

Not too bad, 18/20 cold and without looking at choices before committing an answer.  Missed number of amendments and the Chief Justice (not a clue with this one).  Even got it wrong after seeing the choices - guessed Scalia.  I guess I get to keep citizenship until next year.

My English wife who lived in the States for about 9 years only got 7 correct using the choices.  She must have been asleep for most of her time in the US.

I wonder How I would do with a similar British test - I bet not so good.

Happy 4th.

Tony,
The first question of the 24 asked in the UK test was enough to dampen my enthusiasm for trying the other 23.
Is the statement below TRUE or FALSE?
'In the 1980s, the largest immigrant groups were from the West Indies, Ireland, India and Pakistan.'

Cory,
Orange, red, or  green -  and you don’t even have to buy one for Tim. The nuns at St. Francis would have called him a ‘slacker’, but 16 out of 20 makes him a weiner winner.  ;)

Mike Hamilton,
Same miss for me, but it was instructive. I learned that the 27th amendment was first proposed in 1789 but only ratified in 1992! Who says Washington works slow.    :o

Mike Sweeney,
You ‘pass’. Don’t forget to ask for your Gatorade, and if I can find a pocket size Amer. history book I’ll save it for you (you can give it to Tim when you’re done). See you Friday, I'm in after 12:30.

Glad everyone enjoyed the 'test', and happy 4th.

Jim, thanks for the quiz.  Can you mail me my gatorade?  I think we should dock your score a point for your Subject heading . . .  if you have a passport then you are already a citizen.  If you could lose your citizenship for failing then there goes the passport.

Happy Independence Day!

Rules are rules . I forgot to mark my answer for the number of Members of the House. My error.

I did put myself on the clock. One minute and 19 seconds using my stopwatch I use to time the " delicate darlings" of the fairways.
