I know the great Ian Andrew has done a yeoman's job with the bunkering and urged the club to restore the 3rd and 16th greens. (I think it was those.)

But I don't think I realized just how much the course has been changed until the peripatetic Mark Saltzman commissioned this comparo:

Super-cool double-fairway + shared bunker on 17&18 (just above the equator, left hemisphere) -- and what were those holes at top, now a neighborhood?

Does anyone have pre-War aerials? Who made the changes and why?

Mark, aside from the changes we've noted before, it seems the 10th green has moved.  Did you notice that?

Some perspective from a knowledgeable source:

Using the original images from 1929 and 1930 – 14 bunkers were removed by 1938!
It’s about the same amount of alteration in 1947.
 
The 1947 aerial is not a critical resource.
 
Other notes regarding the bunkers:
The club turned down a series of bunkers (5) that were not restored.
Parts of two bunkers remain in the trees with removal of the trees turned down.
The club wanted certain new bunkers maintained by re-crafted to blend.
 
A couple of the bunkers have been altered since the bunker restoration in 2001.
 
Rebuilt greens (actually it was all of them in in 1935) but I assumed that was essentially grass related since they lost all turf that year.
 
Rebuilds in modern times.
 
#1 twice – last by superintendent in 1970’s (same location)
#3 Robbie Robinson
#4 Robinson relocation to make a five out of a four – original green is still in the fairway
#9 Robinson relocation for length
#10 moved twice – last by Carrick (location has not changed – just shape)
#15 moved up top of hill by Robinson
#17 was expanded by me back to original size in 2001

Are you as surprised as I to learn the course has been changed that much?

Good stuff and nice catch re 9 green. Looks like you and I have to start digging for those '29 and '30 aerials. 

Wonder how they lost the greens in '35. I'll check the club history in the next day or two.

When it says "#17 was expanded by me back to original size in 2001" can we take it that "me" is not Mark Saltzman?
