Newbies Gamble Sands and Streamsong Red are qualifying locations for the 2015 USGA Mid-Am.

The USGA Mid-Am is at John's Island in Vero Beach.  Streaming Blue is hosting the FSGA Four Ball this year as well.  We also have the Florida Open at Timuquana and the Floirda Mid-Am at Sara Bay, both great Ross designs.

Way off topic, but the FSGA put together another great schedule this year.

Ruby Hill might have been set up a bit tough for the occasion, playing at 7,399 yards with, by my count, 9 out of 18 holes cut in the most difficult locations on each green (and the greens were firm) with the wind blowing 20-25 mph all day. Five guys played well to shoot even par or better. Our back nine (we were the first group off #1 and ran into the last groups teeing off the back) took three hours and fifteen minutes after playing the front in 1:55 and waiting 20 minutes to tee off on #10.

Matt-
What was the difference in your front and back nine scores?

A lot, but I just kind of tanked at the end. 37-42. By the time everyone in my group was "out of it" (around #12-#15), we were stuck behind everyone else who was playing their first nine and therefore still "in it" and playing very deliberately!

I played Indian Ridge CC in Palm Desert.  They shortened a par 5 to a 485yd par 4 to make it a par 71.  They had it set up between 7000-7100 yds.  Hole locations were as tough as they could make them without being totally unfair.  Wind was 15-20mph virtually the entire round.  Three guys shot 70 (-1) and four guys shot 71 (E) and it was a 5-spotter so the 4 guys at 71 had a 4-for-2 playoff.  I shot 34-38=72.  Played great and had the last tee time of the day.  Missed a ten footer on 18 to get in the playoff.  My only beefs with the day were two-fold... a) 5.5 hours  to play (which is completely unacceptable); b) it was an MTD circus.  Too many white belts out there thinking they're the next Patrick Reed.

Hope to see you at the Cal Am at LMCC, Matt.  i have qualifying for that in less than two weeks.

Could you have done better at Stanford? Did you have a choice?

Yes.

Having been a struggling mini-tour player at one time, I know this sub-set of professional golfer all too well. They are a special breed. White belts, clothing that makes Rickie Fowler look tame, staff bag that they bought, usually a visible tattoo, and would hold a dozen course record if they hadn't hit so many pins on the fly. Oh yeah, and a pre-shot routine that's longer than the evolution of man.

They are absolutely my favorite type of guys to beat in tournaments.

Mine's coming up on Monday over at Bent Pine. Most notable name in the field is the now-30-year-old Ty Tryon.

Ruby Hill doesn't match up great with my game, but the timing was better as I played in the NCGA Four-Ball Friday-Sunday and had that qualifier on Monday. Stanford was on Wednesday so I would have had to work Monday and at least a part of Tuesday. It would be nice if the Monday qualifier next year was Stanford or Pasatiempo, yes.   :)

Black Hawk? Played there about 4 times.

Carts only. Check
Houses on every hole. Check. (sorry, most)
Gated community? Check.
Fountains? Check.
Major landscaping and on-course flowers? Check.
East Bay? Check.
Guys live there because they can't get into SF, Cal, Olym? Check.
2 courses? Check...ok, cool.
Built in the 1980's? Check.

Now I get the love for RH and Butler.

Ian, have you ever played Butler National? Because here is how your list would pan out there:

Carts only? FALSE - walking strongly encouraged
Houses on every hole? FALSE - literally not a single house on the course
Gated community? FALSE
Major landscaping and on course flowers? FALSE
East Bay? N/A
Guys that live there because they can't get into SF, Cal, Olym? Well, gonna have to go with FALSE on this one too
2 courses? FALSE
Built in the 1980s? FALSE

If you're going to slam my club, fine, but why don't you try getting even just one thing right about it first?
