Where should the US Open be played in 2020?

So here is the list of courses scheduled to host the US Open, barring global warming, or other disasters:

2019 - Pebble Beach Golf Links, Pebble Beach, Calif.
2018 - Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Southampton, N.Y.
2017 - Erin Hills Golf Course, Erin, Wisc.
2016 - Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, Pa.
2015 - Chambers Bay, University Place, Wash.
2014 - Pinehurst No. 2, Pinehurst, N.C.
2013 - Merion Golf Club, Ardmore, Pa

So who is in the running to host the 2020 US Open?

Oakland Hills, Southern Hills, Congressional ?, Hazeltine (50th anniversary of 1970 US Open), Cherry Hills, (60 anniversary of 1960 US Open) .... somewhere in the South?, a new course? Trump course?

So who is not in the running? I would think that Bethpage Black, Torrey Pines (not going to have back to back West Coast Opens, Olympic Club, are not in the running for 2020.

I'm a Denver guy, so Cherry is the sentimental choice. But I'm not convinced it's long enough anymore, even after Tom did his thing. I will be watching the Amateur this year very closely.... might even get down once or twice. It wouldn't surprise me if maybe the USGA was considering it and using the Am and BMW as test runs.

Since 2019 is at Pebble, you can probably rule out California. NY gets 2018. Based on that, I'd guess 2020 will be a Midwestern site or a Southern site. I could see Oakland Hills or Southern Hills. Maybe Hazeltine.

2021 will be NY, 2022 California or west, 2023 Midwest again. USGA may want to take it back to Chicago by then; it'll have been 20 years since Olympia Fields.

Cog Hill, but only if someone other than Jones performs another surguery. Bring in the team of Hanse, Doak and Bill Coore to completely overhaul the course for a 2020 open. The owner would go for it.

The USGA often uses the Amateur as a dry run for the Open. The next US Ams will be at (starting in 2012): Cherry Hills, The Country Club in Brookline, Atlanta Athletic Club, Olympia Fields, Oakland Hills, and Riveria.

Given those candidates, I'd say Oakland Hills is the most likely among the courses for 2020.

Personally I hated watching golf that late at night.  Any word if having golf on at Prime Time makes the USGA more money?

The tournament is held near the summer solstice so even tournaments held in the Eastern time zone could go well into prime time, especially since they don't have to worry about having enough daylight for a playoff.  For example, sunset today in Pittsburgh is at 8:53 pm.  So you could plan to finish at 9 EDT in 2016 and be fine.  Sunset is 20 mins earlier in Philly so even for next year they could plan for an 8:30 finish.

I like TCC in Brookline - they haven't had a big event since the Ryder Cup.

The logistics are everything.  I was amazed at the infrustructure at Olympic.  It's huge.

Dallas National could do it if the USGA rented the entire property of Mountain View community college next door.

Isn't Dallas National set among ravines and all that? Doesn't that prohibit spectator viewing?

Is there any chance the venue for that open hasn't been built yet? Or one that was very recently built? Streamsong?

All the more reason Dall Nat'l won't get it; Mike Davis seems fairly obsessed with viewer sightlines -- he fairly raved about the big hill next to Olympic's 18th green, and just looooves all the big hills for spectator viewing at Erin Hills -- talks about it frequently.
