It is a coin flip who is worse. I bet the PGA Tour is thrilled that Strange commented that they turned the initial Casey Martin cart decision into a public relations nightmare.

I put it on Facebook, I'm convinced that Berman has pictures of ABC execs at a Donkey Show.

Agreed.

Did anybody catch the buffoon doing the streaming coverage of the Tiger,Phil, Bubba group?  He makes Strange and Berman sound like Henry Longhurst...

I gotta call BS on that!

As coverage opened and Berman opined puns about this being an "Olympic" year I hit mute.

There is no less dignified voice in golf telecasting.  At least Mr. Strange has been there, done that.

Did anyone listen to Weiskopf on the feature group channel?  By the last couple of holes he had completely lost interest and kept saying "5 hours . . .It has been five hours since they started."

Really? He is a very bright guy but I have a tough time seeing him open up. I saw Monty on The Golf Channel a little this morning, I thought he was okay but it was funny he was slumped over the desk.

Berman and Strange. AND Mike Tirico. Awful, awful, awful.

Someone needs to tell Berman that the nickname thing stopped being funny in about 1988. Worse were some of the puns.... I cringed when he said "Bad to the Bohn" and then later something about John Senden "Sendin in a birdie putt".

Dude, just stop. Stop.

Weiskopf is entertaining but for all the wrong reasons. He's just cranky. He might be an even looser cannon than Miller.

Berman's "area code" putt comments were abysmal.

Instead of bitching about these guys why not mute the tv?  Or better yet, mute and put on Pink Floyd - it works surprisingly well.

I'm reading a good book about this topic. We can always change our environment....

I rant about this a lot not just in golf. Why can't we have the option to mute the announcers and hear only the sounds of the players and the crowd? Are the networks afraid we'll miss their promos?

My maternal grandfather was an inveterate Red Sox fan (god rest his poor ignorant soul....) and he always watched the games on TV with the sound turned off and the radio in background (Curt Gowdy, IIRC).

Try the link below for radio coverage of Olympic.  You'll get TMI on the Euro trash participants, but the man main, Jay Townsend, knows his golfing onions and both tours well.  As a bonus, you'll probably get up to date hourly news bulletins as to how the Queen's Jubilee is going.

I grew up listening to baseball on the radio while doing whatever.  It still seems strange to (not that I often do) watch baseball.  I only discovered listening to music while watching sport by accident many, many years ago.  While watching Michigan one time, by happenstance, Hendrix was playing when the game came on and I decided to mute the tv rather than the stereo.  I liked it and have kept it up.  The only sport it doesn't work for is hockey - the game is too fast n' stop to flow with music that I want to listen to.

On the other hand, I HATE it when nature tv shows play music in the background - its a step too far.

US Open golf and Pink Floyd?  Comfortably Numb would hit the nail on the head.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Try Motorhead, they fit both with Hockey and Detroit (or whatever is left of Detroit.....).

I turned it on for 6-8 minutes when I got home from work. First couple minutes was inane babble accompanying various graphics and stock shots of the course and the clubhouse and the crowd, then a guy dressed like a clown lining up and making a 2-1/2 foot putt and then they went to a long batch of commercials. When the commercials ended, more little scenic shots and babble along with a promise that a pre-recorded puff piece on Casey Martin was upcoming. Turned it back off. Life's too short. If they can't show at least one guy swing a golf club in any random eight-minute segment then it ain't golf.

Given my "record" collection consists of mainly punk, new wave (well "new" circa early 1980's) and assorted britpop and guitar thrash offerings, what would anyone recommend I listen to as Jim Furyk backs off his putt for the umpteenth time before he at long last hits it. How about a bit of "Hurry Up Harry" by Sham 69 ? Maybe even a bit of the Damned's "New Rose" for every time Justin appears on screen. Or how about Mud's "Tigerfeet" every time we get a shot of Eldricks footwear. Indeed why don't the TV stations go the whole hog and get a theme tune for each player that could be blasted out everytime that player comes on screen. Has to be a winner, think of the money generated by the compilation album, "The 2012 US Open's Greatest Hits".

Thank goodness ABC/ESPN don't have much golf coverage anymore.

Plus, ESPN's video quality (HD) is very poor 720p.
